economics wizard
The wizard reminds you to remember that CA has not only the egregiously higher cost of housing (and the cost of monthly mortgages payments), but higher property taxes, high sales taxes, gasoline about $1.00 a gal higher than in FL, liberal attitudes, very high state income taxes, congestion in LA, and the list goes on. Oh, and don't forget, the brown grass due to water restrictions. LMAO.

So work in LAPD, get paid shit based on cost of living till you retire; move to Florida and live well.
Or work with FHP, get paid shit even with low cost of living till you retire. Then get a second job with health insurance until you can get medicare. Then live happily ever after on a percentage of your shit salary with no cost of living adjustment.
But hey, you're "Florida's finest!"

Lived in SoCal for many years. 57k in LA will get you a pretty comparable standard of living when compared to 33k in most of FL. The difference is that after 2 years at LAPD (with an AA degree), that 57k becomes 67k, and continues to go up from there. After 2 (or even 5) years at FHP, your 33k is still 33k...

Another horrible reality.
Anyone hired after mid 2011 will not get a cost of Living adjustment to their retirement. Let that and the fact that Social Security might be gone sink in...... Other than people that are already drawing military or some other form of retirement, anyone still working at FHP after they get certified and off probation is making a horrible long term investment mistake.

LOL love this stuff, yep some of you do realize what a shit hole this is, only Lt's and above will tell you what a great agency this is ???? Yea , right not necessarily LAPD, but Ft Lauderdale, Miami, and Miami beach, all pay much higher than us, work a 4 day week, and do some real police work. I'm out of here in 3 months, bye bye FHP, I'm done with this sorry place.
