Mike Pelfrey hired as City of North Port assistant police chief

NORTH PORT - Capt. Mike Pelfrey of the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office will become North Port’s new assistant police chief on Oct. 22. The assistant police chief position had been vacant since June 13. More than 40 people applied for the position. Pelfrey has served with the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office since 1989 and he has held the rank of captain since 2006. Pelfrey has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience, is a North Port resident and holds two master's degrees.
