Goliath Davis + Rick Kriseman
The mayor tried to downplay (conceal?) his relationship with Goliath Davis but it's out in the open now. Curious timing by the Times (Kriseman's collaborator), publishing Cara Fitzpatrick's, "Failure Factories." http://www.tampabay.com/projects/201...ure-factories/
Consider:
~COQEBS chronically creates turmoil at Pinellas School Bd meetings.
~Kriseman's buddies Goliath Davis and Bill Heller want to spur enrollment at a private black school.
~They want to open yet another private black school.
~They're effectively undermining public school enrollment.
Creating turmoil in the public school system for a secret agenda, to benefit a handful of political cronies? Undermining the statutory authority of the School Bd and undercutting the electoral process via a smear campaign to damage elected School Bd members? Looks like it.
The Kriseman administration used similar smear tactics to overhaul St. Pete PD into a Go-ish toothless agency. Secret
closed-door meetings resulting in headlines depicting SPD as a racist Failure Factory. Secret selection process for a new
police chief. And more.
Formula for a shadow government, if you ask me. Cryptocracy: actual political power does not reside with elected representatives but with private individuals who are exercising power behind the scenes, beyond the scrutiny of democratic institutions.

New Pinellas charter recruits students from struggling neighborhood schools, by Cara Fitzpatrick
6/15/2013 Tampa Bay Times
http://www.tampabay.com/news/educati...chools/2126961
Melrose and Maximo elementaries, both F rated, and D-rated Campbell Park Elementary — are high-poverty, high-minority schools with chronically low test scores. Cheri Shannon [director of University Prep Academy-2301 22nd Avenue South] is recruiting from those school zones with the help of prominent leaders such as Goliath Davis, former St. Petersburg police chief, and former state Rep. Bill Heller, D-St. Petersburg...Davis has focused on recruiting because he's
"very well-known in the community," she said. Heller said there's a strong desire for another school option in south Pinellas. He remembers a public meeting held a couple of years ago by Concerned Citizens for Quality Education for Black Students [COQEBS] to gauge interest in opening a charter....Shannon plans to use the same strategies and hopes to open a high school in two years.

A new St. Pete charter school is seeing a large number of its students leaving to go back to nearby under-performing traditional public schools.
nearly 70 students have decided to pull their kids from University Preparatory Academy...students aren't the only ones leaving, four teachers and the school's curriculum director have also quit.

If I were to open a private white school, is be considered racist and would have all sorts of problems. It's funny to see how in the 60's MLK fought so hard for desegregation and equality, but now they want to go right back to segregation and it's considered a smart move now.

Good to see Pinellas County Schools fighting back: "A news story in the Tampa Bay Times looks to the past to determine who is responsible for the status of student achievement in five Pinellas elementary schools – Campbell Park, Fairmount Park, Lakewood, Maximo and Melrose. The road to transformation begins with solutions, not blame."

Timing is everything. July must've been a slow month at The Slimes. And oh yeah, the application date for a Pulitzer Prize is Dec 2015.*

"The parties [Pinellas School Bd and COQEBS] agree to meet in December and July of each year commencing in July 2015 so that the District can present its draft written report and solicit input from COQEBS regarding student discipline and behavior issues pertinent to the upcoming school semesters."
YAWWWN. However, The Slimes isn't done yet. Look for another trip to the out house in Sunday's paper.
*Apparently The Slimes is going for the Public Service category award ($10,000.) Two desperately greedy politicos are aiding the effort. Kathy Castor calls for federal review!! Kriseman announces a stepped-up effort by adding a new city staffer to the budget!!

Cops in Schools (CIS) "community policing in schools"
http://www.cops.usdoj.gov/default.asp?Item=54
So tell me Rick, did your chief of police apply for federal CIS funding? Or did you put a little sumpin' in the city budget for CIS? Maybe you prefer Go's methodology of going lean? Nyaahaha, caught with yer pants down. Just maybe Kathy Castor's open piehole will push the feds to place more school resource officers in the Burg. It could be that you bunch of misguided antipopos are getting an unintended consequence.

Getting to know ARNE DUNCAN (Kriseman/GoD/COQEBS/KathyCastor's darling)
Kathy Castor wants ARNE DUNCAN to apply a federal "fix" to Kriseman's southside schools
http://www.tampabay.com/news/educati...ailure/2241748
U.S.Education Secretary ARNE DUNCAN earned his "F"
"Arne Duncan never said a bad word about charters, no matter how many scandals and frauds were revealed."
* He used his control of billions of dollars to promote a dual school system of privately managed charter schools operating alongside public schools;
* He has done nothing to call attention to the fraud and corruption in the charter sector or to curb charters run by non-educators for profit or to insist on charter school accountability

Even Peter Schorsch gets it: http://www.saintpetersblog.com/archives/237875
Taxpayers on the hook for $1.8 million failed charter school Obama Academy for Boys
"There is such an explosion of charter schools that districts are hard-pressed to keep up with all the shenanigans."

Who's responsible for racial segregation in schools?
"Charter schools rarely seek racial integration; many charter schools are one-race, one-ethnicity. The UCLA Civil Rights Project warns that charter schools are more segregated than the districts in which they are located. Charter schools are exempt from most of the laws, rules and regulations applied to public schools."
http://dianeravitch.net/2012/09/09/c...agnet-schools/
Who's behind the Times' attack on the Pinellas Sch Bd? The Slimes quotes Goliath Davis a lot.
Meanwhile, mealymouthed Kriseman's political solution is to spend more tax money on a charter-school-friendly new hire in city hall. Plus he's doing a walkabout on opening day of school, then quickly returning to the Downtown Palace District to suck realtors/developers, and last but not least, shuttling his kids to private school.
Tudball et al have their boy Kriseman by the short hairs. Campaign 2016.
https://twitter.com/NickensFL Tim Nickens, how's your pal Jon East? Why no mention of Go Davis/COQEBS charter school fandango? How about Arne Duncan's charter school boondoggles?
https://twitter.com/fitz_ly Cara Fitzpatrick, old news - others already covered it and the School Bd's already doing it. Get to the point:
"A magnet school is part of the public school system, the result of a decision by a democratic ***** to create a school for a special purpose. The magnet school is subject to the same laws, rules and regulations as other public schools. Magnet schools were initially created by local school *****s in the late 1960s and 1970s to promote racial integration.
The idea behind them was that a theme like the arts, or the sciences, would attract so many applicants that the school could select a racially diverse student body."

Cara, be a good citizen and pay your court fine. Your drivers license was suspended 8/15/2015. I'm not sure how the
Times feels about it but using your significant other (shared mtg) as the investigative reporter on your story seems to
lend itself to biased outcomes. Dispassionate reporting, nahhh.

Have u heard of SPJ Airplay? http://spjairplay.com/
Society of Professional Journalists -- They aim to encourage righteous reporting and win public confidence. Americans hate professions that fail to police themselves so SPJ intends to discuss journalism practices.
Now here we have another Slimes loose goose. Assistant metro editor Michael Van Sickler tweeted "These gamers are out of control. #gamergate terror at SPJ."
He was either shiitfaced when he tweeted or he was out of control for other reasons. Or golly moses maybe he's terrorized by journalism ethics. He posted an apology on 8/15/2015. https://twitter.com/mikevansickler?lang=en Yeah, Van Sickler is another Tampa Bay Times staffer who inspires public confidence.
