Sarasota Sheriff Tom Knight told the Republican Club that he opposes body cameras for deputies because of potential lawsuits. Knight explained that filmed encounters [with deputies are currently] subject to public records requests [and] he is too concerned about [getting sued] from releasing body camera tapes [to the public].

If VPD had been wearing copcams when they arrested Tom Knight for disorderly conduct, then we would have a permanent record of Knight’s angry and drunken behavior, which would permanently and forevermore damage his reputation. DT is smart enough to not have said those things to a subordinate while being recorded. Just because someone is sneaky or is a liar does not mean that they are stupid.
