Illegal lobster harvesting by leos not enforced

It's hard to be disgusted or surprised by the actions of some law reinforcement these days. Your agency is a sick joke and waste of tax resources.

This is a message to the MDPD officers who went lobstering today coming back in at Black Point Marina, as well as the lackluster FWC officer without the intestinal fortitude to actually do his job stopping illegal harvesting of wildlife.

When you were being inspected a young boy said to the Biscayne NP Ranger to look under one of the lobster. To this one of the MDPD officers sushed the kid to be quiet.

Upon inspecting it was seen that this was an egg bearing female. The FWC officer said he wouldn't write you a ticket because it would effect your position at MDPD.

You should consider yourself lucky pal. It is disgusting that you knew your actions were illegal, and you tried to silence your child from telling the truth. What kind of example are you setting for your children? You should be ashamed of yourself.

SO is this where we are at as long as you are employed by law enforcement you can lie, steal and cheat. The actions of both the MDPD and FWC officer(s) were disgusting and place an intolerable taste in the mouth of citizens who follow the rules, only to have those in charge of enforcing them blatantly and knowingly violate publicly them without repercussion.

Both agencies should hold their heads in shame for the disgusting actions of their officers. If you respect the laws you are sworn to enforce, then maybe we as the general public will respect you. Until then don't be surprised that the general public holds you in shameful disregard.

Well, well, if you know these facts to be true and do not report them to the respective agencies you are as bad or worse. Ms. Justice, is that you?? Either do something or shut up. Waiting in the wings.

    Who is Ms. Justice?

Further, why does someone care how we use our discretion?

If you think that scenario represents discretion you need to consider another profession. The law is required to be equal and discretion is used for unwitting or innocent mistakes. No wonder the public despises you.

DISCRETION???? You better hope that the commercial crawfishermen never hear about your opinion. That was not discretion, it was corruption. Nobody has the right to take egg-bearing crawfish, and no one has to "discretion" to allow it! The report is troubling, but the defenders are even more unbelievable. Ethics training needs to be considered.

That actually is discretion. It's a misdemeanor charge. Daily we make these decisions. I'd definitely do a written warning to document it and have them return it. I do this for the average joe as well. Explaining to the public, as well as fellow LEOs that it's a misdemeanor and how that can affect them usually opens eyes. If you've been warned before you're getting the Mike. We run into this all the time in the SouthA/B

Yes it is a misdemeanor. How often does FWC actually deal with felonies?

During lobster mini-season law enforcement was out on the water in force. Other law enforcement agencies are asked to help out.

There was one FWC officer at Black Point Marina. After this incident he went and sat in his car. So while all the other officers were out in the heat doing their jobs, this slug sat in his air conditioned car. The one violation he witnesses he walked away from because it was a fellow cop. What major violation was he waiting for?

How often are civilians let go under such circumstances particularly when they knew they were in the wrong, were contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and attempt to obstruct an investigation?

Are you saying that YOU would give a written warning to an "average Joe" aka citizen who takes an egg-bearing crawfish and not only attempts to find it but involves a child in his offence? If you would, please consider another career. Actually, it is at least three misd. charges, including interference with an LEO in the performance of their duties. If you don't respect yourself, no wonder other agencies and the public consider you a joke- you are.

Curt Brown, are you out there? OMG

    Major Escanio,

You Sir have a big problem in your area of responsibility. From the initial post and incident to all of the outrageous answers like the one above, you have failed and failed badly to provide the public the service and resource protection they deserve. I suggest that you proactively address this mind-set before it swallows you and your entire area. It starts with a lack of leadership and direct supervision of "new" officers. Basically you have new officers training newer officers and they do not know what they are doing. Not a new problem in South Fla. but it is getting worse. Please read some of the answers to this post and ask yourself if you are happy with what is being said. I wish it was not FWC officers, but from the wording etc, it is clear that they are. Please take this bull by the horns and ask the Natl. Park to locate the Ranger in question (there are not that many) and follow-up on this one on your own. Your initiative may do you and your area a big favor to address this. That would be true leadership. Good luck.
