    CompStat

Does your Law Enforcement Division have its own adopted version of the infamous "CompStat" originated from NYPD?

Not yet. Over at ABT they play that game. Most reasonable managers know what a waste of time it is. Just google for some real depressing stuff. But of course this is Florida where there is no original thought. Making managers accountable is a joke when you consider the legislature and gov aren't accountable.

Oh okay, thanks for the information. Are there any other Departments that have that type of program that you are aware of?

I know that many of the larger agencies in the S/E part of the state utilize similar models. It is not called COMPSTAT but involves a similar process of reviewing stats/productivity and the overall quality of patrol and investigative efforts. The NYPD didn’t invent the process they just named it. There has always been some type of management meetings that sought accountability.

Like most things in Florida, things get re-invented. Analyzing crime trends and stats - good. Belittling employees and criticizing their efforts - bad. Poorly skilled managers and politically appointed administrators rarely see the folly of such endeavors. Food for thought - the only product a law enforcement agency needs to concern itself with is SERVICE not numbers.

and I will tell you that is sooo TRUE. Being a former State LEO and also retired from a city.. the brass wants numbers and they will do anything to get them. It should always be about quality of service... Its all a game.. enjoy it while you can because before you know it ...its over.. enjoy.

Stay true to yourself and look for the next thing after retirement..
