May God have mercy on his soul.

He didn't pass away. He killed himself.
Since when to we glorify suicide.

I agree. It's disrespectful for officers to have the "blue line" on their badge & give this man the same treatment we give the real heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice while in the line of duty. The blue line represents our fallen brothers & sisters who were killed/died IN THE LINE OF DUTY.

I agree. There have been officers that have killed themselves and not a mention other than an In Memorium email.

I have a hard time understanding a full fledged police department funeral (Special Events & all) for a suicide victim. It is a disgrace to those who have been killed in the line of duty.

Some one is a little sensitive!

Truth hurts buddy! The thin blue line, MDPD escort, 21 gun salute, these are all in remembrance of real heroes who have died to protect you & I. I find it a bit offensive, as a good friend of a great cop we lost a few years ago, IN THE LINE OF DUTY, that a retired officer who commits suicide gets such treatment as those who didn't choose to end their life. I'm sure the families of those who were killed in the line of duty are a bit shocked.

Thin blue line is God's calling to come home.

    Suicide is a sin.

You might think so and I respect your point of view. Yet, for some, suicide is a way of ending a very painful existence, whether aggravated by illness, mental and or physical or just preempting the indignity of old age. There will come a day in each of our lives when this question will confront us all: Do I continue to wait for death to remove me from my decrepit reality; likely sitting on my own excrement at some "warehouse' for the elderly or do I, still in control of my dignity, return my soul to God?

As to rendering honors, reserved for our brothers and sisters, who laid their lives at the altar of freedom from crime and the fear of crime, I have no objections. Robert Parker was a good man; he served with distinction! Only God knows what torments dwelled in Robert's mind. He, who gave the world His only Son for the expiation of our sins, doubtless understands and forgives. Surely family members of our Killed In Action understand it as well. Why can't you?

It's disgusting how MDPD has handled this matter. Had he been murdered, I'd support the MDPD response to this tragedy. This successful man made a selfish decision. We at MDPD should not be giving this man a heroe's farewell. It disgust me that MDPD has shown so much support for a suicide. Where was all this attention for Sergeant Phil Clarke? He killed himself on duty, inside his green & white, in full uniform.

    "indignity of old age" .....

that is a sad comment. should we start killing old timers at a certain age? At what time do you become a burden to society?

Bottom line is the former Director killed himself for whatever reason and the Dept is treating it as if it was a righteous decision.

He destroyed any legacy he would have ever had; and the fact that there is a "foundation" to donate to is even more of a joke. It's a "go fund me" site; maybe the family is hard up for cash after spending all the loot on palatial estates throughout the southeastern US?

Actually the truth is hurting you more than me. The truth is Parker is going to be put to rest with the MDPD works and you don't like that. So, yeah, that's the truth. I'm sure your cop friend was a valiant cop and sorry for your loss but hey ain't nothing you can do that's going to change Parker's funeral. Hate hard.
