Why is the Sheriff not publically speaking out against this in lieu of the SF shooting? What other politicians were okay with this designation?+

Because he and past administrations pushed this in order to have those that should not be here, come forward as witnesses and victims in order to help solve crime.

This has been going on for years.

Thanks Joe! Now who asked for this designation? This theory of illegals will come forward seems to be more of a excuse than reality. No one in this Country illegally right now is being deported just for being here. Besides, no local government has anything to do with deportations, that a Fed Authority. Seems the feds are allowing a opt out instead of a mandatory you will. This also seems to be only democratically controlled jurisdictions? If this sanctuary designation is so effective in fighting crime, why is the Sheriff and all the county leaders talking about this as a great thing everyday? Seems to defeat the purpose if hardly no one knows about it

Do not remember if it was Heinrich or Henderson that was approached by those in the community about not turning in illegals if they were a witness or a victim of a crime. We had a serious problem in the south county area that no one would come forward with information as they were afraid they would be deported.

The agency started a policy that we would not ask those being interviewed about their residence status.

Makes you wonder who among the illegal population would want the criminal illegals to be protected? If you think the illegals will come forward with info etc, that's not reality. Most of these people are poorly educated and this narrative is based on a political strategy. Do our black citizens routinely come forward in their communities? Do you hear any black politician asking for the public to cooperate with LEO and start snitching on the criminal elements?

A policy of not asking complainants or witnesses about their residence status is NOT being a sanctuary. It becomes a sanctuary jurisdiction when you are holding a known illegal alien in jail and refuse to notify ICE prior to the release of the alien.

There was a proposal years ago, probably in the Heinrich years, when it was intended to train selected deputies (who would be assigned to the Ruskin district) in identifying and apprehending illegal aliens. The idea quickly died, perhaps for the reason articulated in the quoted posting.

I see the Pinellas Sheriff, just called out and put the St.Pete Mayor in his place over implying he was a sanctuary city. Why does your Sheriff stay silent? Gov. Buckhorn is all but saying Tampa is a sanctuary city.
