    The key here is that he stole gasoline for his personal car while he was a Reserve sworn officer. Twice! Nobody cares that he committed grand theft as a teenager or that he shoplifted porn as a juvenile because he was a non-sworn civilian during those thefts. However, if someone will steal (twice) after they are sworn in, then they destroy public trust and confidence in law enforcement.

    He is just a pimped out common thief on the payroll. Nothing more and nothing less. End of story. Did you expect anything less?

    Admitting that he has a problem is the first step in the road to recovery. Is he fully recovered now or is it a confidential medical thing that is illegal to be released to the public?

    Results of lie-detector tests shed differing opinions of Kurt Hoffman

    According to a report obtained by the examiner, Kurt Hoffman answered deceptively on a 1989 polygraph exam concerning stealing from two different employers, shoplifting and drinking habits.

    Hoffman was given his first polygraph exam by W.E. “Mac” McGinnis. During the first polygraph, Hoffman said that:

    * He has never stolen anything.
    * He has never participated in any undetected crimes.
    * He only consumes beer at home and only once a week.

    The polygraph examiner concluded in his written report, “The applicant [Kurt Hoffman] was deceptive.”

    Hoffman then took a second test a week later, administered by polygraph examiner Edward DuBois. However, before the second test began, Hoffman confessed to DuBois that, “I do have admissions to make,” DuBois wrote in his report. According to DuBois, Hoffman admitted that:

    * While working as a Reserve deputy, Hoffman took gas (twice) from the Charlotte County
    Sheriff’s Office for use in his personally owned car without paying for it.
    * Hoffman admitted taking herbicide without paying for it from another employer (the
    Charlotte County mosquito control department).
    * Stealing a boat as a teenager.
    * Shoplifting pornography.

    After the confessions, he took the second polygraph test and passed it. A former sheriff’s detective, Ken Dudding, said the first failed polygraph raises questions about Hoffman’s propensity to be dishonest. Dudding explained that Hoffman’s confessions in the second polygraph support that Hoffman was deception in the first polygraph. “Hoffman lied and he got caught. A leopard doesn’t change its spots. Hoffman is a liar,” Dudding said.

    Earn Varn explained that a polygraph measures changes to heart rate and other responses, which indicates whether a subject is experiencing an emotional response to questions.

    Hoffman got caught lying. Understood. Question:

    What was Hoffman's motive for lying?

    The post says while working as a "reserve deputy" so my question is this; Has the 2nd highest ranking sworn officer ever worked as a full time LEO and if so for how long?

    No he has never worked in any capacity other than reserve deputy. This is why Knight will run again and retire while in office in the hopes that the governor will appoint Hoffman as sheriff until the next election. They both know that Hoffman will not win an election on his own merits. Remember, he would have to retire from his position if he were to run in the next election.
    If Knight runs and then retires, Hoffman will never have to resign his position or face this kind of scrutiny. He would have issues in a reelection but by then would be able to say he has 3 years experience as sheriff and it would be an easier election for him to win. The only problem is Rick Scott. He is such a loose cannon, they can't count on him 100% to appoint Hoffman. They are working on this problem right now.

    Yep, Kurt Hoffman failed a polygraph about stealing porn. And he's Tom Knight's right-hand man. Ah yes, the sticky right hand. If this unethical and thieving crap was not documented in the media, then nobody would believe us! Once a "porn thief," always a "porn thief"?
