$16,000 to see Sarasota Police body camera video
New video cameras to be worn by Sarasota police may create a clear record of what occurs during an arrest.
But obtaining that video could prove expensive.
Already, the Sarasota Police Department has answered one public records request for body camera video by requiring payment of up to $16,000.

If the action takes place in a private home, I can see previewing it. If it is in the open public, there should be no problem.

Nothing can be redacted unless it is of evidential value in an active criminal investigation.

Thankfully, Sheriff Knight was smart enough to stay out of the camera mess.

It sounds like the cost is being based on a review of the tapes to make sure that SPD doesn't have a lawsuit against them. That is a legal fee. When you arrest someone, their attorney has quick access to records. So now will the defense attorney be charged for evidentiary body cam tapes?

Knight didn’t make comments about SPD’s camera issue – and you call that being smart? Knight already made several bonehead comments that he is afraid that we will record nude or “partially clad” women if we wear body cams into homes. WTF is Knight talking about? Knight’s mouth is a lightning rod and should be muzzled. Thank gawd he has not been quoted by the media in the last 72 hours. The K9 section has some muzzles that we can put on him. lol
