Retirement farewell to our very own Sgt. Dennis Morales

So this November it ends! The illustrious career of our very own Sgt. Dennis Morales wraps up and he walks into retirement. Such a career is memorable in nature and requires us to relieve some of its finest moments. So Sgt. Dennis Morales this is your life! You were lucky enough to be born and live next door to our future Director and Mayor Carlos Morales who became your godfather and monitored your life since early childhood. As you grew, you became enamored with law enforcement so at a young age you became a police explorer and soon you were a blue shirt in the academy. From then on, it all became a roller coaster ride! You knew that Midwest District was the place to be so you told Carlos Alvarez that's where you wanted to go. As a rookie you began to foster a negative attitude and you began to challenge supervisors knowing fully well that with Alvarez as a godfather you were "safe". From that time on you picked and chose what assignment you wanted to do. From Homicide to Sexual Battery to PIO, you moved through units that guys with five times more than you were not considered for simply because of your relationship to Alvarez. When Alvarez's son was arrested for multiple sexual batteries you saw an opportunity to get even closer to Mayor Alvarez and you became his consigliere traveling to every prison in the state of Florida to oversee the needs of Alvarez's felon son. When Alvarez left the department he saw it fit to bring you with him as Chief of Staff and that's when you did the most damage. Mayor Alvarez and you politicked, collected checks and worked on his campaign while on duty. When Alvarez was elected you moved to the 111 building and you thought you had grown a foot in height. No longer could you be called El Mojon now you were Chief of Staff. With your help, Alvarez was able to push a strong mayor format that he did not live to enjoy since he was gone and replaced by a recall that made national news. That strong mayor format haunts us to this day and has helped destroy our department. Before that happened though you helped Alvarez promote such sinister and inept characters such as Ricky Smith, Mayors Buck and Elisha Thompson and who could forget! Our very own Chief/Contractor Frank Vessen! You engaged in a huge scam while double dipping for overtime in Panama and were eventually chased out along with Alvarez but not before you handed the reigns of the department to an unqualified director who was simply promoted for racial reasons rather that for his intelligence or experience. Just when we all thought you were going to be put in your place you landed a job at Special Events where you continued to dip into the overtime while mistreating and transferring those you did not like so you could bring in your own click. The atrocities accounted for here are but a few highlights of your career. I am sure many will have many other interesting stories to tell. Either way, we wish you well. We want you to enjoy your accumulated retirement wealth and live life to the fullest. One thing though, when you walk past those who once worked with you don't be upset when they cross the street not to say hello to you and when you are old, do not bother to lie to your grandchildren about the time you were a cop at MDPD for though you "worked" at several places in this department you were never one.

Morales set the standard for internal corruption in this department. He was permitted to keep his rank and job after it was proven by the Commission on Ethics that he had manipulated the payroll system and had been paid his regular salary repeatedly while collecting a check for unused administrative hours while training in Panama. He was also accommodated at a cushy Special Events job to ensure his salary did not go below $160k a year. Such blatant disregard for policy and the lack of action by PCB only increased with the next two directors.

The King has left the Building

Who ever wrote this needs to receive the Pulitzer Prize, lets check with Jim DeFede and Special Events some this novel could be complete. Where do we buy the retirement party tickets I think we should get an AD Day to attend. I want to be the first in line.

Time for the two below listed people
    Retired Officer R. S**l
    Officer A. P***z

Cheer up brother. You just like most of us have done it the right way. Money and power means nothing without a soul. When we leave, we will know we gave it all for this community and our reputation is intact. He in turn is a piriah and an embarassment to our uniform.

    Lies

And here's the best part, Carlos Alvarez ISN'T even his Godfather. He misled everyone into believing that as an added layer of protection for himself. That lie was planted by him and fueled by him for decades. Did anyone ever hear Alvarez refer to him as his Godson? Did anyone ever here Morales refer to Alvarez as his Godfather while in his presence? After all the trash dug up by the Herald and all the articles that they've published, did they even insinuate such a relationship existing? Of course not....he pulled the wool over everyone's eyes and most people were too petrified to even challenge or question that midget.
    Sincerely,
    Karma

I met Morales only once and walked away saying to myself "What an a**hole." And I only just read this wonderful post. Well said!

You forgot one other BIG A-hole, Bernie Gonzalez. This was a guy who could quote Socrates but you can bet his secretary did the research for the quote. Between him and DM they drove Carlos' dad around and even had him "volunteer" at the TB. Bernie hired Oscar and JD to teach at FIU. Now to FIU. The Department did much business with FIU. It was learned and pointed out to JD that there was a conflict of interest. See, Dr. Marquez was technically the chair of CJ but was in bad health. Through his son Javi (a reserve who also worked a the County Commission) they arranged for Bernie to become the Chair of CJ - docs were even found showing this - and thus BG was doing business with himself when he arranged all the work with FIU that he benefited from. No worries, once Marquez passed this was changed to Lynn University where BG again made similar arrangements to benefit himself and his buds. Let's also not forget the investigation where BG did his PhD work on duty and had his secretary do the work. He is the one who arranged all the Panama dealings. Many others also went down there to include; Terp, Carmen Pichardo and Lenny Burgess. Ever wonder what happened to BG after he rushed to retire and took the Investment Plan since he worried that he might loose a pension if indicted? Sure, DM is an A** who thanks to his loud mouth brought attention to himself but he is not the real string puller. Oh, by the way, DM never took a pay cut back to sergeant pay from his 6 figure salary when he came back. So, his retirement check will be really nice since his high 5 are WAY UP there.
