    Shame on you

Dear Members, over 40 years ago, former Police Chief Jim Bottner, assigned then Detectives Gary Lloyd and Charlie Farrell, the task of creating a Pension Plan for The City of New Port Richey Police Officers. Chief Bottner realized the stress and daily toll Police Work had on his Officers. He wanted a "Twenty and out" plan for his Officers. He and his Detectives put a plan together, presented it to the city, and it has worked ever since. It's not the best plan out there, because your final retirement figure remains the same for the life of the benefit. It's still a very good plan. Now, for the Princely sum of a couple of Step Raises and a one time 33% taxed raise, the Members gave the only decent benefit you have back to the city. You just slapped Chief Bottner and his Detectives in the face for some Chump Change. You also slapped current Senior Officers in the face for a handful of Quarters. Shame on you for that.

Boo Hoo. You are probably one of the old timers that are milking this pension dry. None of us like the new pension compared to the old one. But We are the ones taking the hit not you. Shame on you for judging us who are just trying to get by and hopefully have something waiting for us when we are able to retire. This had nothing to do with Chief Bottner, Gary Llyod, Charlie Farrell oor anybody else who has already retired from this agency under the old plan. The ones who should be whining are the mpo's and supervisors (although most of them voted yes to this contract too) and not some old timer that has nothing to do with this new pension.

    More Pension stuff

To the last poster: I'll respond to your post point by point. Boo ho is immature and doesn't warrant a response. Past retirees are not "milking the pension dry". We simply had a benefit presented to us, and we accepted the benefit. Wouldn't you do the same? I don't judge you, I just don't understand why 19 or so of you would vote yes to something that will cost you more money, and give you less at the end. For some of you, you must work longer, contribute more money into the plan, for potentially less pension benefits. I must strongly disagree with you on this point. The old pension is Chief Bottner's legacy. In case you haven't had the pleasure of meeting him, he's a Cop's Cop who supports NPRPD. The only MPO'S and Supervisors who would give up their retirement benefits, are the one's who hope to benefit from the gutting of the old plan. At this point, younger Officers with little time would be much better off going into the FRS at another agency. Stay Safe Brothers and Sisters.
