    Budget cuts amid Terror Threats

Can someone knock on the mayor's head and see if anyone's home?

In the latest round in his war vs. the cops Mayor Gimenez is cutting the Airport District and Seaport District budgets by $2,500,000 for FY 2014/2015. All this amid new repots by national media outlets that the ISIS terror group is calling for car bombs and other explosives in areas of large groups of people. Cutting the budgets of police units funded by profitable county departments just so you can get your revenge. Millions of travelers each year and billions in business transactions but you are willing to risk lives due to poor staffing levels. Shame on you and everyone else involved. You are risking the lives of employess, travelers and citizens.

Budget Cuts + No More Minimum Staffing = OFFICER/EMPLOYEE/CITIZEN SAFETY ISSUES

Go ahead Gimenez- keep cutting critical services and creating safety issues for your employees. Sadly the next incident may make your fire boat fiasco in Biscayne Bay look like a minor fender bender. No disrespect meant to the families of those that perished during that horrible weekend. Just putting it in perspective.

FEAR NOT! There will be no layoffs! As ". . . sources close to the mayor tell Ladra that there will not be any police officers fired after all, even though 110 remain on the chopping block right now." Open and read the below link: It was all a "three-card-monte," Gimenez stunt to intimidate and coerce union members. Still should Gimenez be that situationally obtuse and God forbid, an islamic terror related mass casualty crime occur in Miami-Dade, where is Gimenez going to hide afterward? Particularly should such myriad-victim crime be perpetrated at a soft target and we know which are the most vulnerable!

We, however, must help ourselves by not engaging in puerile; doltish behaviors, like running a "2-12" to a favorite eatery!

It's a reactive system. Everyone knows that.

I don't think the original post mentions layoffs. Remember that the airport and sea port pay for their PO's from separate budgets. The cuts seem to be for regular day to day ops.

From twitter: Adam Rice ‏@livetvat6 · 59m Mayor Carlos Gimenez announces no loss of Police Officers jobs in the budget plan #MiamiDade @nbc6

What did I predict? Gimenez is a blustering bully; now more than before Miami-Dade County voters must RECALL this windbag. Enough dissembled threats against our families’ wellbeing and careers. PBA must not yield a millimeter; especially now that gimenez has lost one of his pocket commissioners and senses the reality of being RECALLED!

    Thumbs up

No layoffs... what do you think all the other cuts like the $2.5 mil are gonna be used for?
The shortages will still be paid for in one way or another. Staffing and police services are gonna be affected either way. This scenario really presents an officer safety problem.

Unnecessary cuts by a department that MAKES money like the ports is just asenine. Leave the door wide open for the terrorists so the mayor can balance his budget and give his friends and family lucrative contracts.

JD? Anyone? How about the CFO, Chief Knoff-loser? Who's gonna take responsibility when something happens and address the media and the famikies of those hurt? Minimum staffing is almost half what it was before in one of these bureaus. The laxed attitude towards safety is obvious. Stay safe guys cause no one cares.

Did a little snooping to see if these places really do make money. Guess what? They really do.

US' Miami-Dade County Aviation Department announced (07-Aug-2012) it will be lowering its aircraft landing fee at Miami International Airport (MIA) by nearly 9% effective 01-Oct-2012. The airport said that due to record passenger and cargo growth in FY2012, the department will be lowering landing fee from USD1.92 to USD1.75 per 1000 pounds of landed weight for FY2013 (through 30-Sep-2013). The department noted that as a result of growth at the airport, it will be carrying over USD85 million of the surplus realised this year into FY2013, allowing it to begin the new fiscal year with 20% of its budget already funded. In addition, the department will now be able to set aside a year's worth of debt payments to pay back bonds sold for MIA's new people mover system to the Miami Intermodal Center.

Officials in South Florida approved as much as $225 million of revenue bonds for the port of Miami to construct an underwater traffic tunnel to give trucks faster access to Interstate 395.

Commissioners in Florida’s most-populous county, Miami-Dade, yesterday unanimously approved the tax-exempt revenue bond sale, which could take place next month.

The downtown port, called PortMiami, is already undergoing $2 billion in improvements, including dredging, as it prepares to accept larger ships passing through an expanded Panama Canal.

DUH! Since the City of Miami ceded these facilities to the County, the Miami Airport in 1946, and the Seaport in 1960, have been self-sufficient cash cows for the County.

Immediately after September 11, 2001, MDPD engaged in a comprehensive threat assessment of the County's most vulnerable sites. Among those were FPL assets. Under departed Major Freddy Mendez, MDPD's Intelligence Bureau did a superb job coordinating with Federal and State agencies, as well as FPL to identify vulnerabilities, buttress them and coordinated a comprehensive tactical response. Mr. Gimenez, has your MDPD command staff proffered a current version of such strategic and tactical plan in the event such calamity was to assail Miami-Dade County? If not, best get on it, according to the below posted link, the Islamic State might be at our gate.
