I was born a Republican and I'll die a Republican, but the local Sarasota GOP is a totally corrupted system that is in the back pockets of the local developers. Corporate funding from the Sarasota GOP caused Mr. Knight to raise more money than any other sheriff in the history of Sarasota County. If all the corporate donations were eliminated, then it would stop the local Sarasota GOP madness. Snyder is too big to fit in their pocket.

If Shannon wins, hopefully he will remember that Knight has kicked him to the curb twice now, first (1) when Knight refused to allow Shannon to run for office (when Shannon was employed here as a deputy) and second (2) when Knight recently supported Shannon’s competitor. This is not about fairness or righteousness, but this is about bum f*** dirty politics.

In the city charter, a person may make one financial contribution for each candidate.

In the county charter, a person may make unlimited financial contributions (one per corporation) for each candidate.

Paul Caragiulo has the exact same corrupt Sarasota GOP support that swept Tom Knight into office. For example, in the first round of reporting for Paul Caragiulo at the Sarasota Supervisor of Elections, here are the facts:

• 25% of all the contributors for Paul Caragiulo are corporations and not people.

As one example, five (5) different corporate donations all came from the following single address in Bradenton (outside of Sarasota County):

Money from OUTSIDE of Sarasota County is pouring in from Tallahassee, Bradenton, Plant City, San Carlos (Calif.), North Brook (Illinois), Oceanside (New York), Marco Island, Clearwater, Port Charlotte, Parrish, Palmetto, etc.

The Sarasota County charter needs to be changed so that one financial contribution from one person may be made. Donations from corporations need to be made illegal.
