pension contribution

I was a pension board trustee for many years so I am familiar with the problems associated. The best scenario for Lakeland PD would be if its pension could be somehow merged with the Florida Retirement System. There are several advantages to this merger, especially economies of scale, lower costs, better management/less manager risk and removes the threat of pension benefit reductions if the city of Lakeland would ever fall on hard times or declare bankruptcy like Detroit. You folks should check with FRS to see if this is feasible.

Do you guys have to participate in the city's pension system or can you participate in the state system in lieu?
