H-T reporter flubbed BIG TIME on 20/20

On the tv show 20/20 Friday, an H-T reporter –- posing as an expert -- gave an amateurish opinion: “You usually see petechial hemorrhages [of the eyes] in a strangulation. You don’t often see them in a hanging.”

    Au contraire.

Not to mention he mispronounced it pe-teesh-al.

H-T reporters evidently get their “facts” from watching tv crime shows. http://crime.about.com/od/forensics/...Hemorrhage.htm
“On television crime shows, petechial hemorrhages are often cited as evidence that the victim has been murdered.” :snicker:

How embarrassing for SH-T. It looked like host David Muir consulted ABC’s medical advisor Dr. Sanjay Gupta beforehand, and then baited the hook for the SH-T reporter to give a false answer witnessed by millions. Ouch.

Big Deal. The Major issue was the MURDER that the BBPD yokels labelled a suicide.

BBPD screwed up much more than any reporter!

Lee Williams thought he'd get a Pulizer doing this. His track record in law enforcement is troubled which brings him contempt because he misses it. Search him and his past failed career in Missouri. The blonde loon will eventually lose her television fame and eventually have to get a job.

These local news papers are completely garbage and have no oversight when it comes to lack of credibility and proof reading. As long as you can lie you can work for The Herald.

Give it a couple of hours and the old blonde will be hitting the bottle and drunk typing.

Very true. Most first year Rookies just out of FTO could do better than BBPD.

That's besides the point. However, that Williams and Osborn crowd need to get a grip.

The reporter wrote 40 stories in the Sarasota Herald Tribune that Muir debunked in one fell swoop. The presumptive murderer was exonerated by cell phone pings that placed him far away from the so called “staged crime scene.” Pfffft!

The sad thing is the Herald Trib is the best we’ve got. One bad apple spoiled the bunch.

I watched the 20/20 show because of the plug H-T gave it in a recent article, and because of the ties to local law enforcement. I viewed the show with an open mind.

IMO what ruins the credibility of the murder theory is the 3 forensic experts who were paid to render their opinions that it was a staged crime scene. Expert #1 (a pathologist)was stripped of his medical license, arrested and is awaiting trial on criminal charges. He’s the one who engaged Experts #2 and #3 (crime scene techs) to render their opinions based on his findings.

It all falls down. I don’t know how the Sarasota paper let it come to this. ops:

David Muir & 20/20 restored my faith in law enforcement. I have a lot of respect for LEOs who get attacked unfairly by the media. In this case, a nationally televised t.v. show exposed the flaws reported by a local journalist.
