The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has rejected a possible merger with the schools police department.

In a letter to Superintendent Wayne Gent, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the merger would bring additional costs that the agency was not ready to absorb.

"Hopefully at some point in the future, we can revisit the concept," wrote Bradshaw.

The school district asked the Sheriff's Office last week to propose a possible merger as a way to both cut costs and gain additional resources.
