A 56-year-old Newmarket woman drove drunk to pick up her impaired son from the South Simcoe police station, officers say.

The woman apparently smelled of alcohol when she arrived at the station around 3:20 a.m. Sunday.

She failed a breath test, and police charged her with driving with a blood-alcohol level over 80 milligrams. They also suspended her licence for 90 days and seized her vehicle.

More than two hours earlier, police had stopped her 27-year-old son for driving 106 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Yonge Street in Innisfil.

He had also failed a breath test, was charged and had his licence suspended and car impounded.

Both were released and are due to appear in court next month.

Police have not revealed their names.
