During budget conferencing, money for a study for Pasco to take over was put in the budget. The governor vetoed it because probation is statutorily a state duty. With that said, don't be advocating to go with the counties!! The pro-privatization folks want to see felony probation go to the counties. Also look at Texas the state Scott LOVES! There felony probation is with the county. They renamed their probation officers Community Supervision Specialist, they do not have powers of arrest and start out at like $15 an hour! Too move anywhere out of DOC, the best place would probably be the parole commission or whatever it is called now. BTW..there CAD is like double ours. Either way, not to the county.

Wow you are way off. You may be correct about Texas. However, Nocco had quite the reverse idea's. Pasco's proposal was much more towards law enforcement. Things were spelled out in total detail. Each Officer would be issued a firearm (.40 caliber), a car fully outfitted with a cage and concentration was to be made on only the most serious offenders. Nocco even proposed to increase pay based on the fact that Pasco pays quite a bit more for health insurance. It was an idea that certainly could have been looked at. This was not meant to be a knock on DOC. However, lets face it we dont have the equipment to do our jobs and we certainly are not acting like a law enforcement agency. Circuit 6 and 13 has a lot of very good Officer's and I think its a compliment that Sheriff Nocco wanted us on his team.

Anyone that thought this might happen was living in a fantasy wannabee world.

This idea was stupid and still is. We need to be under the judicial system because that is what we are we enforce court orders.

Great but no one from the Judicial System has stepped up with any plan. No one from the Parole Commission. The only other Sheriff that had interest was Judd. We all agree on 1 thing, we are getting nothing from DOC.
