Re: New Chief in Over Her Head Already!

I am sure that Mothers Against Drunk Drivers is so impressed that the new chief is promoting alcohol abuse in uniform. The over-sized night stick and her display of it mocks that she will make an unjustified use-of-force if you don't order a drink from her.

And the pants being two sizes too small, filmed in her office, while in uniform - this video could serve as a useful training video for new chiefs...how to humiliate yourself and your agency.

I don't think the City Manager is smart enough to see that this will eventually end in disaster, we will see if there are three City Commissioners who are willing to do the right thing.

How can you spout off about professionalism and then go and make a video like that? Since when did Law Enforcement start backing a program that backs the release of convicted felons by having a contest as to what "Celebrity Bartender" can sell the most alcoholic drinks. This is appalling to say the least. Chief DiPino you have not only made a mockery of yourself, the uniform and the agency, but you have proved that perhaphs you are not the best fit for this position.

You keep preaching about professionalism yet your actions show that it really isn't about that at all. It would seem that it is about getting face time with the press, trying to further your career and talking about all the things that you have done and accomplished to the point when you speak it always sounds like you are reading your resume. Remember a great leader does not have to constantly brag about what they have done. Their greatness shows through in their work.

But try and remember these simple rules next time you want to host a mandatory class that people in the agency have to attend:
    1) If what you say is funny people will laugh - by you repeatedly saying" Come on people that was funny" doesn't make it any funnier.
    2) Wear appropriate clothing - not something that looks like you purchased from Forever 21 in the juniors department.
    3) Stop talking about yourself and and how great you are - it just shows what a Narcissist you really are.
    4) Don't be a hyprocrite - You can't yell at a member and tell them that the fact they said "The beauty queen would float" is inappropriate and then turn around and tell an entire class about your mammogram appointment at the doctor's office, to which you attempted to use your position as "Chief of Police" together faster service
    5) Stop making ridiculous comments to the press before you bother researching the facts.
And last but not least not every little thought that goes through your head needs to be put down and distributed in a memorandum form. Wasn't it you who said there were too many G.O's? Yet you keep pumping out those memorandums.

Be a leader stop acting like this is your little reality show.

What will Tom Lyons write about this video, if it was any other Chief he would have had it as "Breaking News!" 12 hours ago.....

You folks at SPD really need to give Chief DiPino a chance. SPD has a poor public image, does not relate well with members of the community, and needs an overhaul. She has only been here a little over two months and has met with nothing but resistance internally. She has done a lot of good for this city already, but you want to hang on to your old ways. She personally apprehended a robber the first day at work, and she did an exceptional job of moving a homeless problem. She was only here a month at the time. Some of you have been here for decades, why didn't you come up with the solution? She is guilty of trying to make a shaky department better. You scream about saluting, and that you won't do it until she earns your respect. What a joke. Try that in the Marine Corps and see where it gets you. If you would stop acting like babies, start saluting, and do what you're told; who knows, maybe the public would begin to believe you are actually as competent as you think you are. SPD, you're not all that. We will respect you when you begin to act like professionals, something that hasn't occurred on this thread for over two months.

Re: New Chief in Over Her Head Already!

Hey judge, you need to check your facts. She did not apprehend a robber. She was present when other officers apprehended a person who had stabbed someone. She does not even have arrest powers to this day, so if she was doing that in January, she was violating the law. She did do a great job giving herself the credit though.

And tes, SPD has been tagged with a poor public image over the past 6 years or so. But why is that? I can tell you why. Terrible leadership, terrible support from city hall, and the herald tribune. The 3 things, when working together, became a perfect storm for us. So, pardon the hard working officers, at SPD, if we were hopeful that a new chief may be a new horizon, and now are disappointed to see that she is so much worse than every person who came before her.

And as far as the saluting thing, you probably never served in one of the armed forces. Well, I did, and that is all the more reason why it is insulting for this tyrant to be making a mockery of the whole thing.

She is a narcissistic woman, who think being the chief maes her a celebrity, and gives her a free pass to do anything, anywhere. She knows nothing about leading by example, and nothing about real police work.

In a few months, she has done a lot. She has pissed off, and pissed on 174 men and women who she is supposed to be leading into a better tomorrow. She has made a mocery of our agency, and city, by posting a video to youtube, wearing a too small pair of pants, and a too large moustache, and carrying a giant billy club, smacing it into her hand. All while ordering people to order a malibu and diet in a talll glass, so she can win some silly contest. So, yeah, she has done a lot since she has been here. I think she has done enough, since she has been here.

Wel said gets looking. I can only go by what I,ve heard and half of it is true then wow. Judge is either someone from city hall or up for a promotion. Either way not someone you can trust. Trust, a big word Chief. Too bad no one can trust you. Stay safe folks and thanks for what you do from an old retired guy.

Hey, "The Judge"... how's that koolaid taste?

Your blatantly erroneous statement of "She personally apprehended a robber the first day at work" is so far off the mark as to be laughable. However, tell that to any of the cops working the streets at any time during the day or night and you'll most likely NOT be met with laughter, because it's simply not funny.

    Why?

Because she stood there. She was in the patrol car which happened to respond to the scene, and she stood by while they FOUGHT A GUY WITH A KNIFE. Process that for a minute, and then tell us how she apprehended a "robber"... ? The whole department knows the facts about what went on that night.

Get your facts straight before you spout off about things you obviously know little about.

As for the USMC comment, in the USMC one is bound by a different set of laws, but beyond that, saluting is part of hundreds of years of military culture. To try and compare the two is like comparing apples and oranges, and is simply ignorant.

    Again.

As for the video, it was a disgraceful, failed attempt at humor which did nothing but incite many quality employees to anger. She's not a "celebrity bartender". The "joke" wasn't funny. The uniform should be treated with the respect it deserves - respect which was woefully lacking in an ill-conceived and poorly-executed concept.

Believe it or not, the cops at SPD were hopeful for what a new Chief could bring to the table. A fresh start, so to speak.

And we know she reads these threads. Good. We know others in the City read these threads. Posts here are anonymous because people value their livelihoods and have no other way to express discontent without backlash. Here you'll find truthful statements instead of some form of sycophantic hero-worship.

There's no G.O (yet!) saying we have to like the Chief. Considering it appears most of the department feels the same way in regards to her - due to heractions and no one else's - perhaps that should set off some alarms instead of turning the tables and saying the cops are at fault for it.

Quite frankly, many of the citizens feel the same way. Mention the saluting thing to them and they roll their eyes. Those citizens who saw the video were infuriated. The list could go on.

She came here with an agenda and a chip the size of Maryland on her shoulder. If she came in quietly and perhaps got to know her people, things may have been different.

She didn't, so they aren't. Pretty simple.

You do not have to read these posts to see how disliked dipino is. Just ask any officer outside of the PD and you'll find out. One of the prior posts says it all. Had dipino came in as chief and taken a while to observe the agency and get to know its men and women, things may be different at this point. A good leader does not come in guns-a-blazing and start immediately turning things upside down. Yes we need change, but not change just for the hell of it. Abbott did that crap with his absurd gratuity policy when he first got to SPD and he never really recovered as it immediately pissed people off and gave everyone the impression that he thought we were dishonest and untrustworthy. Well dipino is 10x worse.

A good leader is actually present....a good leader is actually around to lead their people and give them direction. She is NEVER and I mean NEVER at SPD. All you have to do is look at her parking space. Empty 80% of the time. From day 1, she has been more concerned with her public image and solidifying herself with the community than actually running the PD. That is why she wants a deputy chief so quickly. She wants to be able to run around the city meeting with everyone under the sun (except her officers) and leave the running of the PD to the D/C. Pitiful. If you think this untrue, take a look at how many prior posts say the same thing.

Dipino is hands down the worst chief I have ever seen. Completely egotistical, operationally ignorant, and power hungry as they come, she is going to lead this agency to depths it never knew existed. Barwin and the commission need to wake up and see what exactly it is they brought to sarasota.

How in the world can Barwin and the commission wake up when they are just as bad....We've got a city manager that does not know what a public meeting is or what the sunshine law is from a hole in the wall. He allows a moron deputy city manager to keep his job. He looks the other way as an IT employee comes back to work after a one year paid vacation and now seems to be dead from the neck up when it comes to his hire the COP. And then there are commissioners who want to do away with the PD, so they are no help at all. The only way to change this is to have the union step up and start complaining, have the officers step up and complain to the union, even the public needs to step up. Maybe an early no confidence vote against the COP is in order. She has proven already that she can't lead and is indeed over her head.........and it's really too late for her to change......this has to turn around fast BEFORE she hires a DC and her daughter. Once a new DC is in place, especially one from the outside.......the whole place is in trouble.....then she really can become the cartoon strip she already is. Please someone save that video.............
