Matt, what do you think about Terry Rhodes being appointed as Chief of Satff for DHSMV? Ever had any dealings with her?

    Be honest here please.

Well, I have read the other thread about her so I realize this question is generating quite a buzz. Here's my answer, the PBA has to develop a professional relationship with the chief of staff no matter who it is. We will try our best to do just that.

Like all of you, I am deeply concerned that there is a growing divide between the upper management and the rank and file. I honestly believe it is the job of the bargaining unit to try to bridge that gap. I believe everyone deserves a chance to prove she or he can handle the job before we make a judgment. Let's give Ms. Rhodes that chance.

As you may have already heard the Governor is proposing bonuses for state employees. We are issuing press comments as I write, but I thought you would be interested to hear it from me that PBA is not in favor of his proposal.

Remember this proposal is a starting point and we have heard positive feedback from Legislature about real salary increases. I know it is frustrating, but stay positive. We still have a ways to go. I will post media coverage as it becomes available.

I know its a little shameless self promotion, but I did an interview with the Tallahassee Democrat about the bonus proposal. You can watch it here. http://www.tallahassee.com/

Not the smoothest closing line, but I think I made our point.

    Matt,

Keep up the good work with the legislature. A bonus and performance bonuses would be a slap in the face and kill morale as we know how those are given out in reality. We havent had a true raise in years and we must hold out for that plus a seniority raise.

Matt - are the head legislators inclined to give us an actual raise and not a cop out bonus from what they have said to PBA ?

Teacher's dont need to be getting 2,500 raises out of state coffers when state officers havent had a raise in 6 years and the teachers make more than the state officers despite making less than the officers in their counties. The PBA needs to make sure the legislature is shown the facts of how disgraceful our pay level is to county officers and teachers and that counties get step raises.

They are inclined to give out raises. It is going to come down to revenues to determine the amounts. The good news - revenues are pointing upward.
