If you support and appreciate your Wilton Manors police officers and all of the support personnel that assist them, please check out this web site.
:cop: http://wmpdpba4bso.com/Home.html :cop:
It has some valuable information regarding getting a proposal from the Broward County Sheriff's Office (BSO) to provide police services for the city. There is also a Facebook link on the web site so you can like it on there to show support. Please contact your city commissioners and let them know you support the request for a proposal from the Broward County Sheriff's Office. Their email addresses are listed on the web site.
The below is right off of the main page of the web site.
Learn all the facts for yourself.
Did you know... your police department is operating at critical staffing levels for over 1 year? This is putting the public & its officers AT RISK! Your crime rate (per capita) has increased 16.8%, training funds have been eliminated and specialty units disbanded. There is a better way to safe guard your community, at a significant savings to residents & business owners.
This website will provide you with answers on how substantial tax dollars can be saved and the many ways these funds can be redirected to other city projects that could greatly improve the quality of life for our wonderful community.

Re: SUPPORT YOUR OFFICERS
Mark your calendar everyone! Make sure you attend the Wilton Manors City Commission meeting on November 27 at 7:00 PM. Please let the Mayor and Commissioners know that you're interested in seeing a proposal from the Broward County Sheriff's Office (BSO) for police services.

Re: SUPPORT YOUR OFFICERS
Why would we do that ? We dont want BSO in our city. While the officers may think this is such a great idea we dont want it or need it.

Please check out the web site and get accurate information. Check out each page on the web site. There is a lot of information available on there. We are only asking that the city ask for a proposal from BSO so they can see exactly what the benefits would be for the city, the residents, the merchants, visitors to the city, and all city employees (including those not in the police department).

There have been other cities that merged with BSO. Several of them were hesitant and even resistant to the idea at first. After the mergers, many of the skeptics admitted that they were wrong and said that it was the best thing that could have happened for their respective police departments and of course in turn for the residents and merchants of those cities. There are two links on the web site with articles from the Sun-Sentinel about when Dania Beach was considering and doing the merger with BSO. Please check them out along with everything else on the web site.
BSO will save taxpayer money by consolidating certain police services. Here are some of them: Records Department / Accreditation Coordinator / Administrative Manager / Evidence & Property Custodian / Training Sergeant / Defensive Tactics Instructor / Firearms Instructor / DARE Officer / Public Information Officer.
Officer safety is also an important issue to the officers. The agency has had 4 positions on road patrol that have not been filled for over 1 year. There are now have 5 open positions on road patrol and this equals about 25% of road patrol. Two officers on the road for the shift is the normal manpower the majority of the time. This means reducing and even eliminating specialty units that the agency did have.
The City of Wilton Manors has frozen all merit pay increases. This means when a new employee is hired they will stay at the same rate of pay until the city commission unfreezes them, and this can be for many years. As it stands now, a new officer can retire after 25 years of service to the community at the same pay rate they started.

This is from the web site and it is very true.
STRENGTH IN NUMBERS – on a daily basis, WMPD is left with only 2 officers on patrol. The many deputies working in the nearby jurisdictions of Oakland Park, Pompano, and Fort Lauderdale will be available for immediately assistance should the need arise.
