Mark your calendar everyone! Make sure you attend the Wilton Manors City Commission meeting on November 27 at 7:00 PM. Please let the Mayor and Commissioners know that you're interested in seeing a proposal from the Broward County Sheriff's Office (BSO) for police services.

Why would we do that ? We dont want BSO in our city. While the officers may think this is such a great idea we dont want it or need it.

    Re: SUPPORT YOUR OFFICERS

Please check out the web site and get accurate information. Check out each page on the web site. There is a lot of information available on there. We are only asking that the city ask for a proposal from BSO so they can see exactly what the benefits would be for the city, the residents, the merchants, visitors to the city, and all city employees (including those not in the police department).

There have been other cities that merged with BSO. Several of them were hesitant and even resistant to the idea at first. After the mergers, many of the skeptics admitted that they were wrong and said that it was the best thing that could have happened for their respective police departments and of course in turn for the residents and merchants of those cities. There are two links on the web site with articles from the Sun-Sentinel about when Dania Beach was considering and doing the merger with BSO. Please check them out along with everything else on the web site.

BSO will save taxpayer money by consolidating certain police services. Here are some of them: Records Department / Accreditation Coordinator / Administrative Manager / Evidence & Property Custodian / Training Sergeant / Defensive Tactics Instructor / Firearms Instructor / DARE Officer / Public Information Officer.

Officer safety is also an important issue to the officers. The agency has had 4 positions on road patrol that have not been filled for over 1 year. There are now have 5 open positions on road patrol and this equals about 25% of road patrol. Two officers on the road for the shift is the normal manpower the majority of the time. This means reducing and even eliminating specialty units that the agency did have.

The City of Wilton Manors has frozen all merit pay increases. This means when a new employee is hired they will stay at the same rate of pay until the city commission unfreezes them, and this can be for many years. As it stands now, a new officer can retire after 25 years of service to the community at the same pay rate they started.

Do you need permission to re-post pictures from a public site. UMMMM!

Better check with the legal adviser on that one.

    Re: SUPPORT YOUR OFFICERS

This is from the web site and it is very true.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS – on a daily basis, WMPD is left with only 2 officers on patrol. The many deputies working in the nearby jurisdictions of Oakland Park, Pompano, and Fort Lauderdale will be available for immediately assistance should the need arise.
