    188 officers short?

Quoted from the Pensacola News Journal:
Morgan called Oliver’s response “disingenuous at best.”

He (Morgan) said the understanding with Oliver was that the Sheriff’s Office would “not make an issue” of a recent jail study which identified a manpower shortage of 188 corrections officers and 14 administrative officers and would absorb the final year of an expiring federal grant.

In return, the Sheriff’s Office would receive $353,000 from “any budget surplus.”

All the while knowing the jail is horribly understaffed, the Sheriff chose not to address the issue for additional personnel. Meanwhile, the leave balances continue to grow and employees are denied the opporunity to use accrued vacation time and accrued holiday time (which comes from working on holidays in lieu of being paid money). And the Sheriff and his Administration team have elected to eliminate all the excess leave balances on June 1, 2013 since the employee failed to use the accrued leave.

To quote EH, "the elimination of excess leave affects more than half of the 1100 empoyees. The overwhelming majority are assigned to the jail". DUH!!!! No kidding?? Would you expect anything different when the place is short 188 officers? Just 30 officers would make a huge difference in eliminating the excess leave issue.

The Detention employees need to vote "NO" on the proposed contract and force the Administration to return to the bargaining table. After reading this tidbit of news this morning, there is no doubt that I plan on voting NO.

There has got to be a better solution to the problem versus just eliminating the leave (which only serves to punish the employees) since it is obvious the administration has chosen to ignore the staffing situation.

Sue the sheriff. Everyone else in the country would. The sheriff is in direct violation of federal law. 180 hours is the maximum that can be accrued in a 28 day period without compensation. The federal courthouse is where I would start, and no lawyer is required to file a claim.

I totally agree with you, but as long as SGT. Brown Water is looking for Lt. bars your vote won't matter. The problem they are having right now is that the Red Baron has suprised Moron with an unexplained shortfall of 1.5 million that has not been accounted for and the county commisioners don't have a clue! Is Cathy Lister back!!!!!!

There isn't any shortfall. Total BS. The Sheriff's Office absorbed the rest of the money the county commission was supposed to fund for the COPS grant. You really should pay attention to what you watch on TV and read in the paper.

It's time to bring back a real Sheriff one that knows how to run a jail and wither the storm. If Ron McNesby is elected the jail will go back under the Sheriff! He is the only canidate that has publicly stated he would ask for the jail back. Help make a difference not only in your life but the life of your community. Corrections plays an integral role at the Sheriff's Office and is vital an equally important to the Criminal justice system. Thank You!

Ron McNesby was at the helm of the jail when we had 3 homicides and a drug holiday that exposed both CO's and inmates to great risk. He was overwhelmingly unelected for good reasons. The public rejected him and they have long memories. And why complain about the Sheriff at all in reference to the jail? It's your Commissioners who run it. The real reason you invent complaints against David Morgan is that you have no legitimate complaints. Even Ron himself could only say that "things will come out as the campaign moves along." We are ready now Ron. If there are "things" then put them on the table. My strong belief is that you are as full of crap as you and your supporters have always been.

At least he had the balls to wither the storm something apparently you didn't. Never once did he offer to give away the jail. You Morgan will be leaving with a legacy in tow as the worst Sheriff in the history of the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. We all know you don't have much manly down there but at least assure us when you get sent packing back to Mayberry you finally grow at set of balls an you an tug it leave with a little dignity if that's possible

Typical Morgan Misdirection. So what are you saying. We're the jail staffing numbers right or wrong under your failed leadership?
