    Ineffiency

Being new to this Department, I can't help but notice how inefficient things are run. It seem that everyone knows things are inefficient but nobody is willing to change it. Here are a couple of examples of things that I have noticed. I am not calling anyone out or trying to embarrass anyone. I have voiced my concern to my FTO and nothing has been done.

Why do I live 5 minutes from several gun ranges yet I have to drive over 2 hours to a gun range in Okeechobee? The cost for gas along with the hours driving clearly do not equate to an effluent operation. Think about this: to send 10 officers to the range - 40 hours of time is wasted driving. That's one extra officer on the street for a week.

And speaking of driving why do K9 officers have to drive 2 hours each way to the casinos? They get an hour of K9 time each day, so if you take their 10 hour shift and subtract 4 hours for driving and 1 hour of K9 time you get this. K9 spends 5 hours driving / caring for their dogs and 6 hours of working each shift. You would probably get more bang for your buck if those guys worked 9 hours each shift and got an hour for K9 time. And everyone wonders why they have no stats.*

So my sergeant told all of us in briefing that he has to to his normal 2 week schedule for patrol an now has to also do a 4 week schedule for the administration. That's just plain duplicating work. Why not give admin the 2 week schedule or give patrol the 4 week schedule and reduce the sergeants work load.

How come we have 2 sergeants working in one capacity in Emergency management. Ta boot the Tribe has an Emergency managment *program. Seem like an awful lot of planning in the event the power goes out.*

So each day I get emails from all over the police department and the Tribe. Then the next day it's all remained in roll call notes. Are we seriously paying someone to combine and resend emails?*
    *
I've been told that each year we do a 40 hour block of training. If that's the case did they forget to include CPR? I mean I have to attend a separate 3 hour course when I am already allocated to attend a weeks worth of training. More overtime money spent irresponsibly.*

Everybody in briefing was talking about how bad the cell phone theft problem is at the night clubs, so one night they send the whole detective unit in a club. End result, the loose 3 phones and make one arrest of a person that stole a phone and then "threw it" when apprehended. Of course the phone was not recovers and no video of the "throw" exists. Glad to see that CIU is setting the bar so high.*

Speaking of *Video I hope they checked for it and documented it in there report. Cause we paid a man to write a policy on how to check surveillance video. The next policy will be how to take a tribal member to the DMV to get a license.*

Oh and the best I have heard yet. They tell me the a Sergeant that everyone respects deeply catches 3 escaped prisoners while they are casing the casino. It's such a good case it makes top story on the 6 o'clock news. Well rumor has it that the sergeant received * a commendation from the chief for the arrest and the very next day recieved a reprimand. *A commendation and reprimand for the very same case. At the minimum this is a waste of paper.

Can you think of any other inefficient practices at this department? *

Ok, when u have been here 5 years then u can gripe so in the mean time, shut the whole underneath ur nose, while ur at it tell me the name of the person whol held a gun to ur head and forced u to come here, gun range, so in other words, let's not use a centralized range, and force the whole department to go to a range that is five miles from ur house to make it more convenient for u, k9 driving two hours, well we can't control where ppl live now can we, n plus don't worry about k9, they won't be around much longer, u got Jm who is pretty 10-8, the other well she doesn't make drug arrests, and the last one, well u got to find him at work first, and lot of times that's not happening, cell phones at the club, how many arrests have u made in this area, yeah that's right, the sergeant writing a 4 week schedule? Ok, do u have to do? That's right none, and there is a reason for it, so everyone tribal wide knows where everyone is and what is set up, did u follow up with ur fto and if u did and no result did u go higher, yeah I don't think u did, as far as the emails, we can all agree with that one, CPR, well I'll tell u what, give me a list one all the training out there and we will squeeze it all into 40hr block so u can feel all warm in fuzzy, btw u were in 40 block, did u ask? Probably not. Taking tribal members to DMV, well, not every reservation is Brighton so don't worry about it, as far as the ot for the CPR, hey, u could have readjusted ur schedule, did U? No, no u didn't, End of the day, well no one is forcingu to be here, so shut ur face and that's the bottom line

    @ bottom line

    Ha ha ha sucker...

You must be a sergeant with big stripes and no formal education...

You see you fell right into my trap.*
    **
If you ever studied finance, business, or economics you would know that the best way to improve a bottom line *is to increase efficiency in the top line and line items.*

So when you say who cares that k9 travels 2 hours and that they will be dismantled soon is it efficient to waste all that gas money and waste all the money that had been spent on training, equipment, and dogs?
    *
When you say who cares if a sergeant has to do two schedules. I say this is double work, doing the same thing twice. * Hey I agree we should all be on the same page with schedules. So if we have a new policy and new schedule format why are the sergeants still also doing the old one. And I won't shut my face, see in taking your job soon and want all these kinks ironed out.

Is going to a local gun range and saving extraordinary amounts of money on gas while easing scheduling burdens too much to ask or is the centralized range just justification to keep an over staffed training unit in tack. *Have we done a staff study on fuel utilization and overtime costs associated with a centralized range vs a local range.

Hey at least you agree with me on the email thing. You see by your own admission, not everything I perfect.

Simple business 101: Remember to improve your bottom line You must increase the efficiency of your top line.*

Your post is good. Most of the brass and chief don't understand, that's sad. Efficient agencies are those which convert inputs into outputs with less organizational effort. Most of the ranking people are ignorant and can't accept the truth. When we bring something good to the plate they can't accept it. Most could not make it in a real police dept. The spending is out of control. The chief and a few others have tried to get hired with other dept's., but failed testing, check their background. When you talk about saving your talking over their heads.

All of this brilliant insight coming from a person that can't even spell "Efficiency". Stop the plagerism and move on.

Are you kidding me "Can you spell". First you criticize an individual for misspelling a word, then misspell one yourself. The correct spelling is "plagiarism". Write it down

    @ guestsol

    really the intent of this blog is to inform, I think spelling is secondary. But since you wanted to make it a lesson in the English language, here you go;

Punction goes inside of parenthesis, so please take the following test:

    Please choose the correct answer:

    A) "Can you spell?"
    B) " Can you spell"?

    Correct answer is A

Brcareful who you throw stones at and put the spelling / grammer checkers to bed on this site
