Well well well. Those of you in leadership and in DROP just got marginalized. The whole organization was just told that you no longer matter. As for those in leadership position and NOT in DROP, well you matter even less. Sad

Don’t be so depressed; it could have been worse. The other names are window dressing; it is between Patterson and Heller. Patterson is the racial card and will probably get it. Gimenez, like Carlos Alvarez, needs to buttress at least 10% of the black vote for his next election. We, who served and still do, know Patterson; he is what he is. Heller at least is a real cop.

I think it will be Patterson and Heller moves to AD. The department won't change. JD has less than 3 years left, so he is just holding the job and developing the next director. Next thread: Who replaces JD as Director? I go with Perez.

You are correct sir! Patterson like Parker will need someone with the managerial acumen and leadership skills to lead the Department. The race card only takes you so far. One day the dynamics of the vocation will expose you for what you are. Remember Parker's pathetic role at the Jose Lazaro Somohano murder scene? Let us pray that between now and 2016, Gimenez will be shown for what he is, a venal political hack. Sadly, our daily will likely protect him as they have done so far. How a man who championed the most villainous taxing scheme ever devised -- the Miami Fire Fee -- got elected county mayor defies credulity, but the Herald ignored it. Talk about journalistic corruption!

The mayor wants someone to control not an independent leader who may look into voter issues etc. hmmmmmmm?

How did the mayor pick these candidates based on what? To save money he should demote all the majors to captain and lieutenant and do away with the ad positions since it seems majors experience and work is not relevant.

"County Mayor Carlos Gimenez has chosen six finalists to become the next director of the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Gimenez and his top deputies plan to interview the finalists next week and make a decision soon thereafter. The department has been without a permanent leader since former Director James Loftus retired early last August. All of the finalists come from within the department.

The finalists are: Maj. Adrianne Byrd, who oversees the economic crimes bureau; Division Chief Randy Heller, who is in charge of north operations; Maj. Delma Noel-Pratt, who heads the Kendall district; Assistant Director J.D. Patterson, who has temporarily been at the helm of the department; Division Chief Juan J. Perez, who is in charge of south operations; and Maj. Alfredo Ramirez, who leads the homicide bureau.

Gimenez culled the finalists after one-on-one meetings he held after Loftus’s retirement with the nearly 30 members of the department’s command staff."
