Miami Beach police lieutenant to be demoted

Miami Beach Police Chief Ray Martinez will recommend the demotion of one of his police lieutenants Random Pixels has learned.

Martinez plans to recommend that Miami Beach police Lieutenant Paul Acosta be demoted to the rank of sergeant.

The action comes just days after Martinez suspended two other police officers with pay following separate allegations of misconduct.

A police spokesperson told me today that Martinez is recommending Acosta's demotion for "misuse of time not related to the July 3rd [2011] incident."

Following last year's July 3rd police ATV crash that left two beach goers seriously hurt, investigators learned that some police supervisors were showing up for work late or leaving early.

In the case of Acosta - who was not on duty the night of the crash - investigators found that on two occasions, June 7 and June 21, Acosta was checked in a by another police lieutenant "for a total of 20 regular hours that Acosta later told investigators he didn’t work," the Miami Herald reported last October.

So far, two police officers and a police sergeant have been fired in the wake of the July 3rd ATV crash.

Another lieutenant - Jerome Berrian - was demoted to sergeant police officer last July "and required to reimburse the city $2,600 for claiming compensation for time he did not work," according to the Herald.

SOME CORRECTIONS NEEDED
* MISSTATEMENTS BY POLICE SPOKESPERSON.

"misuse of time not related to the July 3rd [2011] incident."
1. correction, misuse of time uncovered during July 3rd investigation.

Acosta was checked in a by another police lieutenant "for a total of 20 regular hours that Acosta later told investigators he didn’t work,"
2.He lied first when questioned!

Another lieutenant - Jerome Berrian - was demoted to sergeant last July "and required to reimburse the city $2,600 for claiming compensation for time he did not work

3. Berrian was demoted to officer not Sgt.last July. Also, Lt. Acosta's file had been sitting on Chief Martinez desk, since then. Sadly, Berrian committed the exact same offenses as Acosta but was demoted to officer way back in July 2011. We wonder if this UNEQUAL AND SWIFT PUNISHMENT has anything to do with Berrien being a black officer. Not only is Chief Martinez corrupt for hiding Acosta's file all of these months on HIS DESK but is he racist too?

*****A HUGE THANK-YOU TO RANDOM PIXELS FOR INVESTIGATING OUR TIPS. WITHOUT YOUR INQUIRY at MBPD YESTERDAY,ACOSTA'S FILE WOULD STILL BE M.I.A.*****

*UPDATE* ONE YEAR LATER, STILL NO DISCIPLINE*
