Re: Arrested After Phoning 911 for a Supv

By the book: if the caller wasn’t satisfied with the deputy’s handling of the situation, she could have
    a) asked the deputy to have a supv respond to the scene, or
    b) she could have phoned the non-emergency line 747-3011 herself and asked for a supervisor to respond.

Because she chose option “a” and the deputy stonewalled, it’s on him.

What about the absentee supv who allowed the situation to escalate and then approved the arrest? And the Sheriff who passively tolerated it through his spokesman who downplayed it as “deputy discretion”? It indicates a systemic problem.

Every MSO employee knows the quickest route to a sustained IA complaint is discourtesy to the public. From that springs a workaround by a handful of deputies who implement passive-aggressive manipulation -- courteously of course -- until an emotional caller such as this one makes a misstep they can hang her with. When a deputy strokes his vengeful urges by preying on the emotional vulnerabilities of the public, such self-indulgence squanders resources and taxpayers dollars.

Poor judgment all around. Sheriff Steube should prize deputies who use common sense techniques to de-escalate a situation. The others end up being a potential threat to not only the public, but their coworkers as well. Situations like this may account for the public choosing to take matters into their own hands, rather than risking retribution from a manipulative (but outwardly calm) hothead with a badge -- and that’s the threatening, predatory message this incident conveys to the public. From the official response, there’s no indication Sheriff Steube intends to curtail MSO’s exaggerated and coercive action against 9-1-1 callers.

There’s an axiom among LEOs: beware of the stat-seekers who chronically make headlines; hot-dogism is an early warning.

The caller was screwedbluedandtattoed from the git go. Try calling the nonemergency number yourself. They misdirect your call, where you explain the situation to a disinterred person, who then pawns you off to another disinterested person. You might be tempted to just hang up in frustration. Persist and you’ll eventually get a deputy trainee at the front desk who will route your call straight to the 911 system anyway. You might as well turn yourself into the jail for even calling the sheriffs office. The nonemergency phone line is a black hole.

Actually, don't blame the deputy making the arrest, put the spotlight on the supervisor who told the deputy to make the arrest....The supervisor should have never been given stripes in the first place.

“Sheriff's spokesman David Bristow said the Sheriff would have no comment.”
There’s a small number of jackboots who justify this as a technically correct arrest. Maybe the sheriff privately had some choice words for the heavy handed brothers. No public comment? Then don’t wonder why public support is waning. Do the math, every jackboot encounter adds up in the public eye and drags down professional LEOs. No comment is for weaklings who mistake rigidity for strength. Nothing I despise more than a bonehead who brings discredit to law enforcement.

yes the deputy should not be faulted. he called the "great o" or whatver he calls himself to come to the scene at her request and then the sgt found out she called 911 for him to come out. that sgt refused to respond and ordered the deputy to arrest her. typical stuff from this sgt. he was probably to busy hanging out at his friends bar providing his friends with free security in the parking lot or was behind a building with his gf.

as for the constitutional elect. sheriff I dont agree with you. You lost focus but this is the stuff to expect from you once you take money from people who are trash themselves. let it be known deputies that if you arrest someone who complains and the sheriff elect doesnt belive that law should be enforced then you will be in trouble. he already showed his hand a bunch of times with his rants on this board as well as all the locall papers. he even sided with a person who pulled a gun on a deputy and was shot by the deputy serving an eviction because sheriff elect believes evictions are illegal. his comment was he "didnt blame the homeowner" for pulling a gun. yep thats your sheriff. i could only imagine who he would surround himself with as his command staff. the staff meeting would look more like a sov citizen protest.

Not a surprise coming from that idjit. Reminds me of another one who got filed on, it was unfounded in spite of credible witnesses. He put the hex on the complainant and from then on whenever there was a call for service at that address the poor s.o.b. got “special treatment” by the boys. Then he was promoted to sgt. I went on a call with him one time at an apt complex, he went apeshiit commando and almost started world war 3.
