Sexual Battery in Harlem

Today's Clewiston News reports an alleged Sexual Battery of a minor which occurred in Harlem last week. Upon investigation, HCSO arrested and charged two suspects with Lewd and Lascivious Molestation and upon learning of this, the victim's father took the victim to a Lee County Hospital where the alleged rape was confirmed upon medical examination and the use of a medically administered "rape kit."

Why in the world was the medical examination not done upon fielding the complaint as part of the preliminary investigation? If nothing else, it either excludes the fact that a Sexual Battery occurred or it corroborates the victim's claim. Why would a minor victim's father have to take investigative matters into his own hands? What is going on here? Is there no chain of command, nobody to ask questions when uncertain, no oversight in the CID unit?

If proven during court proceedings that an actual rape took place yet was downgraded for either statistcal or incompetence issues, every Hendry County citizen should take notice!

Well first off, is there really anything left in CID experience wise to even say there is at least one qualified investigator? They have run off every single one of the most experienced, qualified, and credible investigators, so goodness knows what level exists there now. I mean a monkey could work there and pass.

Secondly, I am sure that IF there was a proper mechanism in place for such, this would have been assigned priority and supervisory followup and followthru would have taken place in realtime. But again, blind leading the blind.

Third, normally an SAO office would get involved, but hey you got nothing there either.

Lastly, food for thought. Even though it gets to the point the age old process of doing your job and keeping your mouth shut applies, there is a line to which one should become aware that doing so while CRIMINAL and UNETHICAL acts are occurring all around you, you become no different than the rest of them. Merely staying silent and saying such in a VILE environment such as that place and you are just as guilty for NOT speaking up.
