Sheriff's deputy suspended for flashing badge during girlfriend's eviction

A Lee County deputy has been sentenced to a four-day suspension for improper conduct after an internal affairs investigation found he flashed his badge while off-duty during a personal altercation.

Deputy Matthew Fenske showed up at his girlfriend’s residence on SW 9th Avenue in Cape Coral on Nov. 14, after a neighbor told the couple someone was attempting to break in. When Fenske and his girlfriend, Janine Stover, arrived on the scene, they found Rick Reed exiting the residence. In a statement the Lee County Sheriff’s Office released Jan. 20, Reed said Fenske became agitated and began yelling in Reed’s face and waving his badge. Fenske had no regard for Reed’s young daughter, who was crying and visibly upset by the situation, Reed said. Reed added he felt Fenske was using his badge as an intimidation tool.

When the Cape Coral Police Department arrived on the scene, it was revealed to Cape Coral Officer Dan Barbour that Stover was in the process of being evicted from the residence, and Reed had been sent by the property owner to check on the property’s condition.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office internal affairs investigation found Fenske guilty of improper conduct: conduct unbecoming of an officer/ member, because Fenske showed up at the scene as if he were on duty.

Fenske has had no other substantiated internal affairs investigations in the past five years, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Totally ridiculous! Like this really warrants an IA investigation! Aren't there other LEOs out there that have got away with much much more? Sorry Fenske for trying to do your job, on or off duty.

Why is it the posts that are true about a one female detective always gets erased? She did do a traffic stop on her daughters school bus to get her on the bus due to running late. They also carried a freaking christmas tree on the roof of their unmarked patrol car one year. But nothing happens to this one. She is untouchable!

I delete them because you have no supporting documentation to back up the claims you are making. That makes your posts TOU violations. The creator of this thread put a link to the story to back up the allegation. Same standards as I put a sticky at the beginning of the forum. I have copied and pasted the part you are having a problem with:

Messages (anonymous or not) accusing anyone (including political candidates) of wrong doing (and/or criminal accusations) without substantial proof or reference are subject to deletion.
Please read the TOU http://www.leoaffairs.com/message-boards/terms-of-use/ should you have any further questions.
