We have been monitoring this issue for months and haven’t been able to figure out why there is even a problem. But, Friday afternoon the problem exploded in Judge Merritt Sr.’s court room.

The problem centers on Insight GPS, the Sheriff’s Office, and Professional Probation Services. Up until recently, Professional Probation Services was the only GPS monitoring service operating in Hernando County. They focus primarily on providing GPS monitoring of people who are on parole. However, they will provide service to the courts for people who have not been convicted of a crime and are just out on bail. But, many times they will refuse to provide service to people who are just out on bail for various reasons.

This is where Insight GPS saw a niche that needed filling in the market-place and opened an office in Hernando County. The problem that they kept running into was that the Sheriff’s Office would not release any defendants, using Insight GPS monitoring systems, on bail unless a Judge specifically authorized it. That made it very hard for Insight GPS to gain clients or do business. That is... until Friday
