WHAT UNION MEMBERS NEED TO KNOW
Are we at war? With whom? Remember the days when the unions spoke out against the previous Mayor, to the news, or constructed massive protests to voice our views? Here is a list of recent events that have taken place and you be the judge of who we as members are at war with.
- When the news, commissioner, state attorney’s office, and Mayor criticize justified shootings It’s the job of the Union to set the records strait and stop the misinformation from affecting those officers involved. The Chief fought hard to protect those officers , most of our members expect the same if not more effort from the union which didn’t happen.
- Union states at our most recent meeting in January “We will remain neutral regarding the chief” Well Armando made this statement this week “that the union feels, “for the betterment of the department” the chief should step down” this is not neutral and does not represent the members opinions on any level. Not once has anyone complaint about the chief at the meetings. This absolutely goes against what was agreed upon at the meeting and that was to remain neutral.
- The Union had set up a protest at AAA when all eyes were on Miami little did the members know we wouldn’t be protesting around the arena, but in fact several blocks away, thus defeating the point of the protest and no justifiable reason was ever given.
- The Mayors Ball on January 29 is a huge event were over 500 Politicians gather for their annual event. The union refused to protest against Regalado but one must not forget we did protest at the same event against Diaz.
The Blind Man’s Piggy bank- Where is all the money going? We need donations to help our legal battles! Let’s throw a party.
- As of October the union stated it had collected over 30k in donations from other unions and has spent over $75,000 just on lawyers to fight the pay cuts. They further stated we only have enough funds to cover a 1 year battle against the city before running into trouble.
- We received what some may call a “BAILOUT” from local unions to help defer our legal fee issues but our union used a portion of that money on a VIP party with an Open bar, free food, and music free of cost for 150 VIP members. Some may agree that it would be honorable to return all donated monies since we seem to be having problems managing our own.
- They also continue to donate union savings to further their political interests. Most of these donations are not in the best interest of the members and are without approval. These practices deprive the much needed funds, we as members need, for our ongoing legal battles.
- Union makes donations to Regalado’s daughter campaign for school board at the time of pay cuts.
- Members are met with hostility when asking for itemized statements. The way our money is categorized by the union makes it impossible to tell what the money was actually used for.
-
Other issues you just might just want to address!
- During elections the Vice President who was endorsing Lugo was the one to collect absentee ballots . Here are the results of the election before absentees where calculated
NORTH- Lugo 3 Kerr 42
SOUTH- Lugo 6 Kerr 43
SOS - Lugo 2 Kerr 43
**Central**- Lugo 57 Kerr 73
-------------------------------------
total before absentees - Lugo 63 Kerr- 201
+ **ABSENTEES**- LUGO- 206 KERR-100
FINAL TOTAL- LUGO- 309 KERR-301
*Votes collected by Ortiz for Lugo- 298
*Votes not collected by Ortiz Lugo- 11
Guess what station the VP Ortiz was running? Central! Guess who collected absentees? VP Ortiz again! 97.5% (298 out of 309) were collected by VP Ortiz who endorses Lugo. Also Kerr had over 3x more votes than Lugo before any absentees were counted. You be the judge numbers don’t lie people do. Why are board members even involved in the collection process?
-Another issue is Board members are quick to attend roll call when election time comes around but fail to show up after that. This flier will probably cause some to show face but that doesn’t change the past.
In conclusion, this is only a very small portion of what is yet to be released. Please be objective and make your own conclusions. It’s either we all push for change or we see our past mistakes repeat themselves.
