The Clearwater Police Department received a public records request for all CPD employees to include the following information:

    1. Full employee name
    2. Employee’s job classification
    3. Employee’s hire date
    4. Employee’s gender
    5. Employee’s race
    6. Employee’s date of birth

Under Florida public records laws, we are required to provide this information. There is obviously a great concern when this amount of information is released. However, despite extensive research by our PIO, Records Supervisor, and Legal Advisors, there is no way we can legally withhold the information. PIO Watts spoke with the reporter who made the request and tried to persuade him to accept ages instead of DOBs. He stood firm on his request. He said it was being used for a data base project but would not go further into detail. Anyone making a public records request is not required to provide a reason or disclose its intended use. In the meantime, we must comply with the law and release the information.
