This is one of THE most spot on, professional jails I've ever seen. Deputies are Deputies in the jail. No civillians in the control rooms here. If I could, I would.

Job Description

The Civilian Specialist is a non-sworn position with primary assignment in the detention bureau but may be assigned to other areas of the organization based on operational need. This position provides support for sworn deputies in the following areas: property room, programs, classifications, court coordinator, video court as well as a variety of work assignments in support of basic law enforcement functions. Because the Sheriff’s Office is a twenty-four hour a day operation, the Civilian Specialist may be assigned to work any shift and day of the week with holidays included.
