Colorado State Board of Ethics Investigation

Recent news on the campaign trail of retired SA Hislop is the investigation of possible inappropriate campaign solicitations and subsequent donations from AFAUSSS members...

Might bring the campaign to a halt if found that there is a state ethics violation.

Not if it hinges on an alleged IRS Code violation. The association has not violated the Code.

Who knows how the Colorado "unfair advantage" constitutional provision will be viewed, but again the association broke no laws.

    Tempest in a teapot.

    Actually there wasn't a finding.

It was a joint statement between the candidate and complainant saying the complaint had been withdrawn.

Personally I don't think there was a basis for claiming any IRS Code had been violated and the Colorado law against one candiadate having an unfair advantage over another sounds inane.

A complaint was lodged by an anonymous reader against the original posting in this thread, dated July 14, 2010. The complainant was that there were allegations against a know or identifiable individual in violation of the Terms of Use.

The complainant may have not read the entire thread that indicated the issue had been resolved with no onus on the named individual.

Further, the original post contained a link to a publicly available news report. Inclusion of this report brings the entire post within the bounds of the Terms of Use.

Quote: "Messages (anonymous or not) accusing anyone (including political candidates) of wrong doing (and/or criminal accusations) without substantial proof or reference are subject to deletion." Clearly, the link to a TV broadcast report constitutes a credible reference.

No further action will be taken.
