The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a
courthouse is this: You cannot post "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thou Shalt
Not Commit Adultery," and "Thou Shall Not Lie" in a building full of
lawyers, judges and politicians...It creates a hostile work environment.

Well I will badmouth PCSO. The deputies posting on the site are a bunch of self righteous think they know it alls. In reality, they know their reality and that is it.

Here is their reality, they really better be praying if they are any where close to the bottom of the ladder. I would be sweating if I worked for an agency that has had to make severe budget cuts three years in a row and at least one more to follow.

The saving grace for PCSO, a Clearwater hostile takeover. Then the only people that have to lose their jobs are new rookie PCSO deputies who just happen to be old senior Clearwater officers.

Sounds great to me. Save it deputies, we do a better job at policing our cities than any proposal can. It is impossible for large bloated agencies to provide the same level of service as smaller community oriented law enforcement agencies. So pardon me if I don't just jump on your hopeful band wagon. Also, why would I be giddy about even the prospect of having to start over, take a pay cut, and give up my pension so that deputies jobs can be saved? So no, its not good for me and its not good for our community. Public safety was why governments formed. That is exactly why CPD should exist even if it means shutting down some other services. Government wasn't formed to start libraries and parks. If your not going to have a police department and your talking about merging into a county wide fire service, then Clearwater might as well just turn over operations to Pinellas County.

The bottom line is you either get onboard the train or you get run over by the train and get the life crushed out of you. The best thing anybody can do is help the takeover move along smoothly. Write letters and make phone calls to encourage the city to make the move. Your help will be appreciated and rewarded.

Yeah, ok buddy. Actually the exact opposite is happening, and from guess who-----the citizens of Clearwater. Phone calls and emails to keep CPD and reject PCSO. That's only the beginning from what I hear. Oh, and I like the threats about not being on board with a takeover. Seems PCSO would be setting itself up for some serious lawsuits.

    Re: Sheriff to Clearwater

Your in dreamland if you think that this contract is not going to happen. First off your full of bull that the citizens are making LOTS of phone calls. The citizens don't care who polices them as long as they feel safe. Right now the cities are in a financial crisis and the only answer is CONSOLIDATION.

If you think that the citizens are going to get less service then that would be on all you future PCSO Deps. Most if not all of you will still be working in the City of Clearwater so I guess what you are saying is that you are going to give less than 100%.

And from the sounds of the questions that are being asked by your administration it's a done deal. They are asking things like "Are our guys going to only work Clearwater cases?" Sounds like a question that you would ask if you are putting the finishing touches on a deal.

I do not believe that citizens are just going to say that they do not mind paying an extra $10m in taxes to keep your department when they can keep YOU for $10m less. The offer has been put into writing so you can crunch whatever numbers you want to. Your budget is $37m and the Sheriff will do it for $27m. Believe me the city is going to say OK we will pay you $27 mil now police the city.

    Welcome to PCSO!

Perhaps all of the feather fluffing could be put on hold, and we could simply wait for the decision. That way we could end all of the usless back and forth posting here.

    Re: Sheriff to Clearwater

We already have a good situation. PCSO has county jurisdiction and CPD has Clearwater. I wonder why the Sheriff is not asking for Pinellas Park, Largo, Tarpon, and St. Pete. Well we know why he wouldn't want St. Pete. But CPD is perfect, quality Officer's he can re-dress and handle the city with no interruption. Also, every year he can raise his cost of policing the city and the city can do nothing about it but pay. So reality is, it's a great deal for PCSO. If anyone thinks this low ball offer is anything more than a giant hook to get the city they are way off. It will cost 90 million or more to reestablish a police department if the city doesn't like the next bill. Good luck to all affected

You need to remember that your city asked the PCSO for this proposal. Pinellas Park, Largo, Tarpon and St. Pete did not (St. Pete Beach has asked). The city did not ask the Sheriff for a proposal for the hell of it. This is very seriously being considered and some of the initial feed back is that it is going to happen. The final touches to the contract are what is being worked out now from what I have heard.
