Word is they will open 2 academy classes in 2010 if the promise for funding really comes through. They furloughed troopers for a while but that stopped. They finally gave everyone laptops which is nice. They are also going to no longer spend the extra money on the fancy paint job and just go with a solid color, either black or silver with the orange lettering. Money is tight in GA.

How bad is the manpower up there in GA? Here in Florida you might travel 300 miles and not see a Trooper. Also in most counties down here you will not see the Sheriffs Office working the Interstate. Its really bad, the roads are out of control.

The manpower situation is most likely a little different than what you may be used to from down there. I retired from Fla in 2004 and work here for a local Sheriffs office. They have good equipment but the resources are limited. Some of the agencies in North Georgia ( Sheriffs ) are currently hiring. You cannot beat the quality of living up here as Florida has become a place that most of the guys I retired with have fled from as well. Check the websites for Union, Fannin and Gilmer counties.

Contact your Florida Legislators and ask them to fix the manpower problem with the Florida Troopers; they know how to fix it, and you more than likely haven't contacted them and asked them to do something about it.
