    AFAUSSS New Board No Leadership

Two weeks have elapsed since the old AFAUSSS Boards regime ended. The members hoped for new vision, new guidance.

    But so far

No hello email message from the new President to the membership.
No postings on Oldstar from the new President.
Oldstar still shows the old officer names.
The full membership has not been told who the new at large members are!
The membership list continues to decline.

Leadership? None except for the lone Big Apple director. Very sad.

I'm sure they are composing the announcements you are looking for.

They are probably still recovering from the hardships and stress of their hard fought campaign for office, and the trip to the annual meeting --- if they went.

But, seriously folks... Be patient; I'm sure it's coming.

As always Ulysses you are correct in your thinking. Patience you are also correct regarding the delay in any forthcoming information from the new BOD. They surely need a respite followisng their long and difficult campaign. Even if they did not attend the annual meeting, I'm sure they put a great deal of thought into attending. After all we have only waited three or four years to get a BOD that gave any kind of consideration to AFAUSSS members. We cannot be too hasty.

We have been graced with an initial message from the new President of the association.

It is a lengthy paean of praise to the outgoing board, and particularly to the outgoing president. I guess a bit of hyperbole can be forgiven on the occasion of the passing of the torch of leadership.

Rather than condemn this initial offering, I counsel further patience.

Let's give it a little more time to see if the new President will quickly announce plans for the board of directors to address the previously identified and acknowledged deficiencies in the newly adopted by laws of the association and the foundation. In urging the immediate passage of the defective documents some proponents said that the problems would be addressed by the incoming board. Let's hope it happens; and quickly.

Let's also hope for more openness with regard to the board meetings; having them announced in advance, available for monitoring by interested members and having a detailed account of the matters discussed published on the web site within a very few days of the meetings.

I have great hope for the impending activity of the new board.

Let's wait and see. One question I have is why the new president posted his message thru Kathy Rinkenburger, Exec. Director of AFAUSSS as oppo0sed to his posting directly to members on Oldstar. In his campaign he stated he intended to visit Oldstar more often than in the past. He is not off to a great start in that regard. Of course twice a month would be an improvement. He needs to communicate directly with members rather than through an intermediary. TRANSPARENCY, TRANSPARENCY, AND MORE TRANSPARENCY. Enough of this lack of communication between the BOD and members.

The new Board of DIrectors came into office in September 2009, but the Board will not have their first in person meeting until January, 2010. They'll meet in Iowa in the dead of winter. Ever hear of blizzards? Why the delay, especially when that meeting is designed to train board members about how to be board members? That means the general membership will have to endure four months of untrained Board of Directors. Is that "leadership"?

    .

Whatever else you might say, you have to hand it to Region 1 representative Scott Alswang.

He is on the message board frequently; he posts interesting messages; he responds to messages posted by others.

And, he is not retired. He is a busy business executive who nonetheless finds time to interact with the members.

We could only wish we had more like him.

You are so right. Thanks to Scott, if we could find seven more like him. He is the freshest thing to happen to AFAUSSS BOD in years. Thank you Scott. The or even members of the BOD needs to wake up.

Re: AFAUSSS New Board No Leadership

The AFAUSSS Presidents personal battle cry is: A closed mouth gathers no foot. Explains why it took a message here on LEOAFFAIRS to embarrass him into posting his first and only message on Oldstar. Leadership? No way.

Problems continue to fester. Here are some samples.

Board meetings continue to be held in secrecy. Why?

The new Board needs to start challenging members to log into Oldstar weekly. But this President only tolerates Oldstar and he cannot comprehend how valuable it can be. No vision. This Board marginalizes those who use Oldstar. Why? Only one new Board member has the courage to post any messages. Why?

The Board has reverted to the old thug way of having zero business smarts and doing business solely on one guys opinion. Current example: Mr. Piggi, an old Board member, wants the new Board to hire Mr. Piggi’s buddy to manage the foundation’s funds. No due diligence. No competitive bids. No ethics. What’s wrong with the current company, hired after fair competition?

The Oldstar still shows an old IRS 990 disclosure form. Why?

Oldstar shows the same stale photos for years primarily of old Board members. The forums are not logically listed. A general category should be at the top followed by alphabetized forums. A grade school kid could figure that out.

Was an audit done when the new Board came in? No. Why not?

Why does Oldstar show financials that are three months old?

This Board should show the actual companies and funds the investments are made in, not the broad strokes shown in financials. Former treasurer LeGette used to show the full membership exactly where all funds were located. Why hide this data?
