The agency answer? Do away with sergeants and reclassify them as lieutenants. And there you have the rest of the story.
I view this current procedure as an undercover affirmative action. How else do you hire or promote morons?

Afirmative action is alive and well at ABT. There are more female LTs and Capts throughout the state than any other agency. Might explain why there are so many damn problems. To many cows running things instead of the bulls with the balls.

Word is that Sabrina M interviewed against Carol O for Major and was #1 on the list- even though Carol had over a decade more experience-what do you think that was based on? What does Sabrina have that Carol doesn't?

Of the captains listed, only 2 have no experience at abt, the same 2 that took it upon themselves to change every single operations policy, cave and tolbert, if you want to look at responsibility, how about the two most irresponsible and least trustworthy. It's easy if you do make cuts based on character.

The Tallahassee district has a lieutenant for 5 agents, the Panama City office has Gatliff, the other office has Cornman, they really don't need a Capt. They have been operating independently for years.

Cavve's position could be eliminated tomorrow with no problems for the agency. Because he chooses to do nothing with his position that benefits the agency. Spending all day scheming and running for office elsewhere should not guarantee him job security. Give someone else a chance to run the offices, or trust the experienced lieutenants to run it.

Putting Panama and Pensacola under Tall. was done for one reason and one reason only. To justify the Captains slot. Grouping offices under a captain was done under the cloak of "ACCREDITATION"
The same could be said for Ft Pierce, Daytona, and Gainesville. There is no reason Lts can't report to a major. It would also eliminate another layer of supervisor nothingness. One step forward. Two steps back. Tradition - unimpeded by progress.

Wasnt the Captains slot there long before accreditation or for that Cave or Tolbert??? Wasnt Myers Captain and then Cathy Lux Captain and then David Pate Captain and then John Harris and then Tolbert and then Cave. Seems to me that the position up there in North Florida has been around a long time. Oh and if you talk to those lieutenants, they want to report to the secretary, especially the one in Panama City..... and never a captain.

Some Captains are work inhibitors. Some Captains don't stand behind the LT's or agents. Some Captains want to cancel off duty work, want to prevent agents from teaching at academies, want to shove ridiculous policies down your throats, want more merit raises nobody else gets. Those Captains have a lot to answer for. Isn't it time that they get removed-the Lieutenants in the affected areas are capable of supervising the offices in Panama City, Tallahassee, Tampa. Give someone else a chance at Capt. or let the LT's run the show in those offices.

The slot materialized when then Governor Chiles was looking for a place to land Charles S. While it was a captain, there wasn't any real involvement in daily district business. The grouping of what was three separate district offices into one district was a by-product of accred and only another way to secure the captains slot.
You forgot David W. in your list
