    Top Heavy???

Do you think the agency is top heavy? The new call sheet is due out soon. Alpha 1 through 40 something are supervisors. That leaves about 110 agents. The ratio seems a little high to me. How about you? Discuss.

Yes we are extremely top heavy, especially in HQ. But, unfortunately, we are no different than the majority of other law enforcement agencies...a lot of dead weight just sitting around on their arses. A good ratio for span of control should be one supervisor for every 5-6 employees. We could get by with 2 Majors and 6 Captains statewide (FM doesn't need a Capt., could get by being supervised from Miami or Tampa.

We don't need a Capt. and the merry band of Lt.'s just sitting around HQ. All these jobs could be whittled down to three people tops.

Too heavy period. You dont need a supervisor for 5 to 6 people. 1 supervisor to 12 -15 would wor especially for the type and amount of work we actually do. Dont need 1/2 Agents, LTs Capts or Majors and do we really need a Chief, Deputy and a Director? Come to think about it does Florida really need a Governor? or does Wal-Mart really need a parking lot?

Tallahassee district office does not need a Capt. and should be run by a LT-if for some reason the LT could not help an agent and they need a higher up, there is always a Major, a Chief, a Director, a Deputy Director, and a Secretary nearby, in the same building.

Speaking of Tallahassee, across the hall two LT's sit with a useless Capt. and do the following: Office inspections that could be done by a nonsworn, running statistical reports that is actually done better by a nonsworn, and making accreditation files that could be done by a nonsworn, if it was even necessary for this agency to continue to seek accreditation. The agency saw not one single positive outcome of accretitation. It did not improve anything. Now, 3 years later, everyone sees that it was just a way for some very nasty people to retaliate against alot of ABT agents without seeming to retaliate against alot of ABT agents. Everyone except two Capt.s would like to see the agency stop the insanity and stop seeking useless accretitation.

So scratch off two useless and unworthy Capt.s and two useless and clueless LT's from Tallahassee's finest. Do they really need an agent to help a LT put things into storage and drive new cars around? Both of them could be put to better use. Give that LT a squad and put the agent back to work.

Majors? Some are valuable. Some are not. The ones with no prior ABT experience have shown that they are a roadblock that agents have to work around, not an asset to ABT. Eliminating the positions of know-nothing Majors during tough budget times is a NO BRAINER. The more inexperienced Majors they get rid of, the better off ABT will be.

Yes he does need help to put things in storage and to drive around the new cars. No doubt he is limited and it is natural. He needs help just like you need help doing your "difficult job." After all it is difficult trying to decide which store to go to....Home Depot or Lowes. Right?!
