    12 hour shifts survey

The new bid with a 5% reduction of the night shift differential (patrol still gets 10%) and 12 hour shifts everywhere except Central Division, adminstrative and specialist units will start soon. Good, bad or indifferent? Let the administration know by posting how it will affect your job performance and personal life.

Personally, I think 12 hour shifts really suck.

I would love to see 12hr shifts in patrol. It's just a matter of time before PCSO joins 99% of law enforcement agencies in the US and gets away from 8hr shifts. Hopefully it will be sooner than later.

Actually, over 40% of agencies across the country are on 8-hour shifts and only 24% are on 12-hour shifts, according to a Police Foundation and NIJ study.

I idea 12hr shift--Work Sun/Mon/Tues and every other Wed...off every other Wed, Thur/Fri and Sat. The other shift will work opposite off every Sun/Mon/Tues and every other Wed and on every other Wed, Thur/Fri and Sat. This is how we worked it at Bootcamp. More days off in a row to do things with the family. Its better than the 12hr shift thats in place now.

the only people who bring up 12 hour shifts are the new guys,,,,,,why should people with seniority get punished for what the new guys want,,,,we shouldn't.

I would suggest that you go work for hillsborough county if you want to work a 12 hour shift they are still hiring.

Only 32% of large agencies (200+) surveyed worked 8hr shifts which means 68% of them work a shift longer than 8hrs. And a sample of 200 agencies including podunk depts from the midwest isn't a large enough sample. Can you name ANY large bay area agencies that work 8hr shifts? HCSO, Pasco S.O., TPD, Sarasota, Manatee, Polk, ETC all work 11.5 - 12hr shifts.

You mean YOU like it just the way it is. If "we" like it so much, you won't mind putting it to a vote.
