    What happened?

Our Departmet has lost every nice area we once patroled. We lost Aventura, Sunny Isles, Pinecrest, Key Biscayne, etc. Wenow have swamps, the inner city, and slums.

You know why? Cause many of you think because we wear doodoo brown, that that's enough. We need to go back to providing great service, not sorry service.

In Broward, many cities have been absorbed by BSO. In Miami-Dade it's the opposite. Think about that. We can do better. That's why I'm going To Doral!

[quote="Anonymous"]Our Department has lost every nice area we once patrolled. We lost Aventura, Sunny Isles, Pinecrest, Key Biscayne, etc. We now have swamps, the inner city, and slums.

You know why? Yes! Since 1991, when The Village of Key Biscayne incorporated, Miami-Dade County government has been either deliberately or clumsily shedding its Unincorporated Municipal Service Area. Most of the areas that have seceded from Miami-Dade have done so to attain the type of police services the high taxes they pay suggest they should receive. But both at the 111 Building and MDPD Headquarters, "leaders" were blissfully blind and deaf to the gathering storm of incorporation. Instead of correcting the course, providing the services community demanded, the enlighten Mr. Stierheim imposed the infamous "mitigation fees" on communities professing an interest in incorporating, either as a mean to retard or arrest the process. It failed! Sadly citizens from communities that have and will continue to incorporate rather pay double taxes to ensure they get the type of police services and zoning autonomy they want for their communities.

Sadly, voters in this community don't learn from past negative experiences! In 2004 a slim majority of registered voters elected an inarticulate and visionless executive mayor, and in spite the fact he did nothing during his first two years in office, except politic for the strong mayor, that same rabid minority granted the inept mayor absolute powers over the executive branch of county government. BTW, what has he done since? Next month the City of Doral police department goes on line! Good for them, though it must be embarrassing for MDPD whose Headquarters and Midwest District Station sit right smack in the middle of the City of Doral.

Though your union leadership has again endorsed the "Scarecrow," you --should you live in Miami-Dade -- can vote this coming November 2, 2008 for another candidate. Miami-Dade desperately needs a new direction and vision. Otherwise, expect more incorporations by remaining affluent areas. This need not be, with the right leadership, even communities that have incorporated might rethink their policing service needs and re-contract the county for it.
