Officers say they were fired illegally

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- A Davie police officer says the city illegally fired him because he had a heart attack while on duty.

Mike Necolettos was a 12 year veteran, who was promoted to sergeant six years ago. Now he's accusing the city of firing him illegally, despite his exemplary service.

Davie also fired Lieutenant Greg Mize the same day. Like Necolettos, Mize had been unable to return to work after suffering multiple heart attacks. The town sent both officers letters terminating them because they could no longer perform their jobs and needed to be replaced.

Mize had worked for the town 21 years.

A town spokesman declined to comment, citing privacy laws
