    State Attorney's

EARL MORELAND and the Asst. State Attorney's do a great job not only protecting the true victim, but often find themselves correcting when cops have provided them with less than factual information with seldom meet the elements of the statues, which the defendant(s) have been charged. We read about these cases alot thanks to Manatee Hearld, and the Bradenton Hearld. SAO'S keep up the good work and most of all please weigh the fact accordingly as you have done.

    Prosecutions vs. Crime Rate

The fact that you rely on the Bradenton Herald for your facts tells me you don't know what your talking about. If you want facts file a public records request on all Felonies over the past 3 years. Include in that request copies of all declines, inter-office emails, and SAO personnel evaluations. Now once you have all that do a public records request on the matching probable causes. After all that come back and give us an honest opinion as to why you think the crime rate in Manatee County is on the rise.

The sad part is the public never knows this part of the process. An example of this is the Carlie Brusca case in Sarasota. Everyone was quick to blame the Judge for releasing the predator on probation. Well guess what folks the Judge was only adjudicating the recommendation and agreement of the ASA (prosecutor for you guests). The bottom line is the SAO needs to clear the case load any way they can, as once the case is filed the clock starts ticking. So if you want to really troubleshoot the rise in crime lets stop brokering deals, declining cases to avoid trials, and setting a positive president for tough Law Enforcement.

Better yet lets start asking the question on this message board what each and every one of us can do to help fight crime instead of writing juvenile nonsense that does nothing to contribute to the solution.

Law Enforcement does their job day in and day out putting the cr4iminals in jail only to have the State Attroney plead it down to a lesser charge, drop the case all together, or ask for a light sentence all so they won't have to take it to trial.
Instead of voting for someone else as Sheriff I suggest you look for someone to replace the real cause of the ever increasing crime rate EARL MORELAND
just from a past incident,Moreland filed charges on someone and after finding out it was a friend of his he canceled those charges. that person told me this ,so this good oh boy system is still around.
This post is really where the problem lies. The real issue is with the State Attorneys office and the Judges. Its time that they are voted out as it is them making Law Enforcement feel they way they do. In yesterdays paper, they declined to file on a woman who did not pay a taxi fare. They said that they could not prove she intended to not pay when she entered the vehicle. I guess we cal all get free rides if we use that stupid reason. Lets all band together and get out the real problem as this whole county needs a house cleaning. It will come at a steep price for a while. Just ask Matt McMillan who ran and won for Judge.

Please!! That says nothing. The HBPD Chief went through that FBI academy as well, so what does that say. That is a status symbol show put on for all the country's local yokel ranking personell who could never make it at the Big boy level.

You think that makes Steube a scholar? Too funny! Thousands of local law enforcement folks go to the FBI Academy campus for seminars, etc. The FBI does this as a favor to give additional training to local yokels. Steube went for a few weeks. He’s still an under-educated dweeb. :cop:

Steube attended management and fitness training sponsored by the FBI, from January 8, 2000 to March 24, 2000. Maybe this fools the public into thinking it qualifies him as a brain surgeon.

Yes, and we all know having an education directly relates to a persons ability to do a job. That piece of paper has no direct correlation to a persons ability to perform a job correctly. Just look at the other guy everybody loves to flame on here, Dr. S. I agree that being educated could help round out job skills, but you would be making a error in judgement to think that he is stupid. Steube inherited a hornets nest that was 15+ years in the making. I don't envy his position.

Doesn't Steve ...oops I mean Susan Ashley Stanton (born "Steven B. Stanton" in 1959), Still need a job?

He/She was a city manager and now that he doesn't personally have one (do to an operation) she now can handle a large staff! :snicker:

That should qualify enough for the position
