I don't think it's just Florida Troopers, I think it's mostly troopers from southern states in general. I agree with one poster: Serve your badge, your community, and your family off duty as well as on duty and don't put other law enforcement officers in the position of dealing with this stuff in the first place.
I agree with your post and would have little problem busting a corrupt PO or another trooper for that matter if they even thought of tarnishing the badge. I think most of these guys are talking about infraction tickets; 10-20 over. I apply the same to them as others to keep it fair. The interaction during the stop. Did they pull over right away? Were they courteous? Etc etc. Then I look at the record and look at the history. At that point, I decide whether its a citation or a warning. If it's a citation, the next step is "full amount penalty" or "partial penalty" via speed over.. Based on what has been stated over the years about FHP, I don't think it's the entire dept, but maybe just a few hot heads out for military or police officers. Some guys have grudges for whatever reason. I know ISP doesn't tolerate that type of attitude, but some depts do.
Very well stated. It doesn't matter what troop you are assigned, the key is using some common sense. Nothing in our line of work is cut and dry. Since this topic seems to be about FHP, it may serve everyone to remember that FL has no reciprocal agreement with Indiana. Try to run a 28 on FL plates and you get limited info. Run a 27 and you get even less info. Officer safety issue? I'll pass on the FL trip, holiday world is cheaper, safer, cleaner, less crowded, and more fun for the family.

My gift from an FHP trooper was a ticket for 15 over the limit. Full amount!! We had to delay payment on a few bills to cover it, and I signed up for ISP project work. He was like a robot, looking for military or police officers, in my case he got both. My driving record was perfect until now, and I'm sure our insurance will go up. OK, off my chest...
same happened to my brother last fall. he came back after six months then drove 8 miles over the limit to get home to crestview and there was no traffic. he was courteous to the trooper and never, never, had a ticket. he got one this time for the full amount. i actually chuckled when he told me since he was always the no ticket, no accident driver in the family. on a serious level, it is petty but like i told him, that trooper could be out working the streets responding to violent calls for help and i wouldnt blame him a bit for wanting to sit and run radar on a rural stretch of highway in peace. the trooper name started with a k but can't remember his name, he did give me a good laugh though.

I cant speak for any other state, but in Florida the Troopers are "Highway Patrol" (hence FHP) and they DO NOT respond to calls like domestics, batteries, burglaries....that kind of thing....hell its hard to get them to take a call OTHER than an accident that happens on the Interstates.,......Doesn't make them any less cops, just a different function. And I don't care what state you are from....if you are a LEO you will NOT get a ticket from me, even if you are a horses arse.....Thats just me.....I look at it like this....If i were to write you for something, and then you paid the ultimate price for our jobs.....I would not be able to live with myself.....a speeding ticket??? Not gonna happen. We have lost 6 cops in Florida this year already too. I was using I-95 one day going to a different area to work when i saw a black Toyota P/U traveling 25 over and weaving thru the lanes. I got the guy stopped and it turned out to be a Trooper.....he showed his ID and asked "Are you going to write me"???? I looked him in the eye and asked him if HE writes other cops......he got the OH CRAP look and never did answer. I handed him his DL back and told him "Cops doesn't write other cops tickets"......I hope i got thru to him.....I dunno.....All I know is I WILL NOT do it. We HAVE to cover each other. If we we don't do it, who will??? To those who have gotten cited in Florida, my apologies.

I agree... I would never write another cop... and I have stopped many blowing thru my jurisdiction. I believe that, unless they are reckless, it should be that way for all areas of the US.

    Re: Greetings

I just saw this site and it brought up some recent memories. I was in Destin Florida and Panama City about 8 mos ago on vacation with the fam. Letting my wife read the map turned out to be a mistake but it kept me from having to stop all the time. Well she got us lost and I decided to ask one of the troopers for a quick set of directions back to Shalamar. Two were parked in the grass near the air museum. I figured if they could get me to Shalamar, I would be familiar with the area. I stopped on the shoulder with blinkers on and walked up to his parked charger. As I approached, I heard the other trooper refer to the other as "ken". I showed him my police ID and began to ask him directions. He told me I'm not the police here and to move my vehicle. I didn't ask twice. The other trooper, who seemed younger, sat in his car looking the other way. If you acted like that in Michigan, guess what, the career is over!! I did a little digging, since I also know FHP troopers. I found out all I needed to know. Please pal, come visit Michigan some time. 1mph over, illegal lane change without signaling, parking illegally on the side of the roadway creating a hazard, you name it, we can have some fun!! And for the record, most FHP troopers are professional and not like this guy.

I know who you're talking about. Goes by KP and works that area in a black charger. He targets military and leos and has a great reputation with the pros. My brother got a ticket from him for 10 over the limit while he was down there for an interdiction training school. He said the trooper seemed angry as though he was aware of the interdiction training and disapproved somehow. After he got the ticket, he told him thanks, keep up the drug escort work, enjoy it while it lasts. That opened up a new conversation about FHP and bad cops.
