    Directed Patrol's DP's

    Front line opinions please.....

"Creative loafing" reported 07252007 in an article entitled:

    "Policing Ourselves" by Alex Pickett:
    Quote:
"As residents deal with police officer shortages (as of July 13, the department is short 50 officers from its authorized strength of 540) and an officer attrition rate thats rivals other major Florida Cities.........."

Just how many Directed Patrols are really addressing problems while others are taking away from real street protection / coverage ?
Does the public need to know how the numbers are being manipulated ?
Does SPPD now have a DP Quota ?

DPs are the Smoke and Mirrors to justify the disbanding of the CPOs. They and their counterpart CPAFS are a number generating joke that has little and no impact on crime. The only thing happening is business owners who want special atention are calling the CSOs who are generating a CPAF. An on duty 911 responder is then pulled from the street to provide free private security for the business. The rest of the 911 responders have to pick up the slack even though we're already short nearly 100 officers (the 50 short plus the other 50 who are out for one reason or another).

And just when you think it can't get any better there is a new weekly report. This time around they want to list each officer by name and document what they have done all week. Here's a thought... how about we do a management weekly report. I know it would be short but very entertaining.
