HCSO Dep Suspended
Did you all see where the HCSO deputy got suspended for excessive force following a traffic stop. I was wondering if I missed something on the news, because I did not see any excessive force. Anybody know?

Trust me... it was excessive as well as STUPID on the Deputy's part. He's lucky he didn't lose his job!

I saw a lady 1) Flee from a traffic stop 2) Disobey a lawful order and 3) Refuse to get out of the car. The Deputy pulled her out by the arm as she was reaching for her purse (which was in her right hand, along with any weapons that might have been inside ) and proned her against the car.
The fact that your relative is in the hospital doesn't give you the right to flee from the police and ignore lawful orders.
The only thing I would fault the deputy for would be when he said "Well now you're going to jail" when she said her father was in the hospital.

Typical response from a ROOKIE robot drone! It didn't have to come to that if the moron had taken the time to engage the woman in conversation instead of robotically asking for her license, registration, and insurance information. After failing to do that, the robot walked back to his cruiser without questioning her further. The woman was in the HOSPITAL PARKING LOT FOR CHRIST SAKES! The deputy should have kept her license and then taken the extra five minutes to follow her into the hospital to verify her story. News flash there sport...Not everybody you come in contact with lies to you. You are not that special! One more thing sport...I was very critically injured ON DUTY where my wife and dozens of cops were speeding to the hospital to support me. Answer one question for me before I go...Are you the narrow minded RAT that would have stopped my wife and fellow cops and written them a ticket BEFORE verifying the story? Probably by the sound of you but you would have ended up cuffed to your cruiser's cage with your pants pulled down around your ankles! ops:

Oh ok ROOKIE so my wife gets a ticket but not fellow cops? Guess what sport...when you give my wife a ticket you give me one too. You non thinking robot rookies make me want to puke! I bet the guys you work with would love to know that you would give their significant others a ticket when their husband/wife is near death in the hospital. How pathetic!!!

20 + years on the job
In my opinion the Deputy used bad judgment. Once the lady pulled into the parking lot of the hospital and advised the Deputy that her father was having a heart attack, he could have asked for her D.L. and escorted her into the hospital to verify her story. This would have taken just a few minutes, and as it turns out, confirmed her story. Then he could have preached to her about the dangers of speeding or given her the ticket if that made him happy.
The lady also messed up because regardless of her father's condition and the Deputy's stupidity, she was speeding and lawfully stopped. She should have stayed put, accepted the ticket, and then filed a complaint. Not take off from a traffic stop and speed through a parking lot, where she could have injured a pedestrian.
As far as the Deputy's physical actions, he could have approached the car, asked her to step out, and place her hands behind her back. Not run up to the car and immediately yank her out, without giving her the opportunity to comply. For those of you that might argue officer safety concerns (i.e. well, the lady could have been doing this or that), the Deputy should have waited by his car until back up arrived, and then approached. Because if there was any concern/claim of "she could have been armed" then running up to the car was stupid. So, did he go a little over board on the force? I think so. From the beginning of the stop you can see that the Deputy didn't give a shit that the lady was all emotional, and he lost his cool after she fled.
However, what the Deputy did does not negate what the lady did, and I don't think that the S.A.O. should have dropped the charges. Both the Deputy and the lady made mistakes.
Lessons to be learned:
Use discretion
Don't be a hot head
Learn some people skills, defuse situations, don't escalate them
Be safe, but hear people out and don't rush to conclusions
