    RENT-A COPS

Tampa Tribune 03-21-07...Hernando County Deputy receives a verbal repremand for calling TIAPD officer a "rent -a cop" after receiving a parking ticket...You gotta be kidding me!!!! Question 1. Why did we give a deputy a parking ticket in the first place???? Question 2. Whos feelings got hurt??? OK, I already know the come backs.."well the guy was jerk and deserved it"..OK but just remember, nobody's 100 percent right all the time, and when that FHP,HCSO, TPD...and so on..officer pulls over one of TIAPD 's "finest", chief, a/c and others included, for a minor traffic violation, don't be expecting any breaks. Because of nonsense like this, TIAPD is still a joke in "the real world". I'm not saying what the deputy said was right or defending his actions, however why not just "do the right thing" on our part as a gesture of good will to other cops and send the guy on his way. I mean it's a PARKING TICKET for God sakes, is it really worth it !!! All I can say now is whoever got their feelings hurt better stay at the airport, cause in the real world if all they called me was "rent-a-cop", I'd get a warm and fuzzy and probably invite the guy over beers!! SOOOO.. now the deputy gets a "hey man, play nice", and TIAPD gets laughed at (AGAIN)...NICE!!!

It was not a TIA officer that gave him a ticket, it was a parking enforcement specialist.

OK, I'll play along. So who runs the traffic department???? On that same note, who is the NUMBER 3 man in the police department???? Hard to tell them apart??? AHHH HA! Did that little light over your head just come on? If not, you may want to check the bulb. When something happens here, it is a reflection of the whole agency no matter who did the deed.

I do belive your department was up in arms several months ago, because a Trooper wrote one of your guys a ticket. I also know you officer was pulled over once before by the same Trooper and let off for 15 over. The same officer speedsby the Trooper in the same spot a second time. What a lack of respect. This could have been taking care of. The parking enforcement is ran by your department not the airport. Thos guys are always rude. I have let your guys go several time and not for just any little 10 over the speed limit I pulled one of your officers over for 85 in a 45. A little much dont you think, but I still let him ride. So maybe you guys need to educate your parking guys. You have to give respect to get it. Don't be warned by one of us and then come and speed in the same spot and then turn around and act like we owe you something, WE DONT.

Fact is they ARE run by the airport, and your right they are also apart of the PD. The Police officers have very minimal contact with traffic unless traffic calls them because someone is giving them a hard time.

The traffic specialist have there own traffic supervisors.

Thats like putting the blame on the Tampa Police department and officers for a ticket a Tampa meter maid gave you!

I happen to know for a FACT that acutal, or as actual as you can get at TIAPD, police officers were involved in this incident. Furthermore, how would Hernando County S.O. know about the incident unless somone from TIAPD went to them??? The Tampa Tribune article also stated that it was an officer not a traffic specialist. Lets be honest now, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it doesn't take a TIAPD supervisor to tell ME it's a duck.

A tampa meter maid has more authority than a TIAPD officer

TIA officers were involved because traffic called them, for whatever reason!

Obviously you haven't been an officer for any significant length of time if you believe everything the news says. The TIA officers involved were not the one's who issued the ticket. They were just there because traffic called them. Upon arriving there, the Hernando deputy spewed unwarranted insults at the officers without them even saying anything to the deputy.

Traffic made an issue out of it afterwards, so thats how it reached Hernando.

Your trying to turn this into something its not, like I stated before...If a tampa parking agent gives you a parking ticket and you give him a hard, threaten him, or refuse to move your vehicle and he calls TPD, a logical person would not blame the TPD officer who arrives.....would you? That TPD officer has no authority to stop the parking agent from writing a ticket. Same goes in the incident at TIA.

Go ahead and keep trying to find a wedge in this, you won't! Your desperate to find a reason to implicate the officers in something they had minimal involvment in.

I can tell you first hand that the police officers at TIA are known for giving PC to other LEOs, go out of their way to accomodate other agencies to include FHP when they need free parking for a trip or an escort into a sterile area. None of these we have to do, but we do because we share a good working relationship with other agencies. Even only one officer made an issue about a ticket he received from FHP, there have been 5 others throughout the past two years who received citations from FHP. For some reason, we havent had a problem with any other agencies.

Several troopers have also been given PC when pulled over by TIAPD, I know because this is usually a topic of conversation when ever an outside LEO is stopped. In fact I can't remember a time at all when another LEO was not given PC by a TIA cop.

Stop your spew, and if you must ticket us Smokey then go ahead, but what goes around comes around. Its called Karma!

OK, again I'll play along. I'll even play off your example. If I was to receive a parking ticket from a city parking enforcement officer my ID will, in most cases and has in the past, taken care if the issue. Usually with a, "no problem officer have a nice day". If I was to be summoned to another incident of this kind, I would resolve the issue with the individuals involved without the need to issue a citation. The problem at TIAPD, and I speak from experience, is no one wants to show a pair and do anything that might upset the higher ups and compromise their next promotion. The average patrol officer has no discression and gets no support from the chain of command. The average officer, unlike his city or county counterpart, is in most cases not even involved in any decision making process. You wants cops to act like cops, then treat them, train them and USE them that way! You want to eliminate spew, then practice what you preach! I'm not looking for an angle, just the TRUTH!! If that hurts your feelings, then so be it.

So the traffic guy writes the ticket, the deputy gets miffed, the officer responds, the deputy "spews" at the officer and the traffic department tells on the deputy. FHP doesn't play nice and TIAPD stops "several" of our local law enforcement officers speeding on a 3 mile strip of roadway to and from the airport where they park for free. HMMMMMMM, OK if you say so.
