FORT PIERCE — Police Chief Eugene Savage was arrested on three felony charges this afternoon relating to a bank check that he signed and deposited in November.
Savage was indicted this morning on charges of grand theft, forgery of a bank check and uttering a forged bill - all third-degree felonies punishable by five years in prison, according to the State Attorney's Office.

He turned himself into the county jail at about 2:30 p.m. and bonded out by 3 p.m.
A $5,800 check was issued to Savage and his ex-wife, Gwendolyn Boyd, in November, according to assistant state attorney Lev Evans.
Savage signed both of their names and deposited the check into a local bank, Evans said.
Boyd, who is police chief in North Miami Beach, complained to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in January.
Evans stressed that the charges were not related to Savage's job with the police department or the city of Fort Pierce.
Savage and Boyd had divorced in April 2005.
