It’s unfair to those students who are “white” (non- colored or Hispanic) who have done everything and more throughout their high school years and out worked and achieved these special categories of minorities in every academic area and college testing processes, only to be denied entry to the college of their choice because of the need to “meet” diversity requirements.
Apply it to any job as well ......in our profession it should be a “blind” application process to both employment and promotion throughout the entire department. You are assigned a # throughout both the hiring and promotional process. This is very easy to accomplish and I know several agencies who do it this way. Some even hire an outside party to handle the process to distance themselves from the process.
Imagine “people of color” ( whatever that means) having to start on an even level with the rest of the candidates instead of getting “points” or consideration for being who they are and in reverse not penalizing those who are considered “white” for just being who they are.
This can be applied to both race and sex, and would eliminate all those complaints that someone received special attention or treatment due to race, sex, or their last name.
Imagine if the NFL or the NBA teams were told that half of the team had to be white? Neither one would even consider this, but private companies and corporations are constantly hounded for the Lack minority leadership positions. This also includes police departments. Every year you see the reports of how few black NFL and NBA coaches there are.
This narrative is played out and so untrue. Reward those who deserve it and achieve the standards to be granted the position by performance results which do not require you to reveal their gender or race.
That’s equality......no special treatment for anyone.
